Hello people.I know that this might not be the best place to ask this but I'm really desperat.I've been working with PCs for about 9 years now and have been working in network for about 6 and I love it.I really like netwroking and now I'm more then ever interested in doing a MCSE course so that I can leave my current job.I live in Great Yarmouth and I found a college in London (www.bcoc.co.uk) to get myself certified in the field however it takes time and money, my question is do you guys know better places to do them courses???? Can I get fudding from the goverment for them courses? I'm a bit in the dark here and any help would be most welcome. I'm in the UK for 25 months now and I'm really tierd of my current job, I'm almost 30 years of age (27)and I want to do something constructive from my live something I really enjoy doing and that I know I can do it as I do know that I have the skills I just need to get my hands on something and start with my certification.I sure hope that there?s someone out there that has encoutered the same problems, whose willing to give a hand here.Best regardsCarlos ArrudaCava

Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by curtr2 on August 17th, 2005 01:29:37 AM You might want to look online for any "online colleges" offering the MCSE, or, you could check into self-study courses that you could do at home in your spare time. |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by cava1593 on August 17th, 2005 01:42:43 AM Hello Brian.I´m determined to to them, its just the time and the money but with will I know I can get there.Just one more question, I found this college in London (www.bcoc.co.uk) and they have the MCSE 2003. The course cousts £990.00 plus other fees they may charge and it's 16 classes with unlimeted practise hours. How does this sounds? How long was your course or how long have you took to have your certificat?By the way where did you took your MCSE course if I may ask?Best regardsCarlos ArrudaCava |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by pmkdatabase5 on August 17th, 2005 05:46:52 PM Carlos,So is 30 old? I got my MCP at age 61. Listen, MCSE is not like a BSc or other university degrees because you can just take it one exam and one subject at time and can even take it several times. Start with the area you know best - Windows server, XP, networking (that is the tough one!), etc. Just about everything in the Windows 2000 Server test was available for free at the equivalent site to http://www.microsoft.com/windo... you can afford it, buy VmWare's virtual workstation and some more RAM. You can set up a whole virtual network on one machine and work through all kinds of scenarios. I don't want to get into a long controversy and /or flame about this - just one person's opinion. Brain dumps which are available all over the 'net helped me a lot in two ways. 1) Made me familiar with the format of the exams. 2) Pointed out weak areas. Obviously (it _should_ be obvious) you cannot trust the answers people post and I sometimes found opposing answers to the same question, but if I wasn't 100% sure of the answers then I reviewed that area again.Like any exam, it is going to take time, a lot of which is spent in memorization. Money - maybe. I know several MCSE's and MCPs like myself that never paid for instruction except for some ebooks on CD - they found all the info they needed at MS and other locations on the web.Good luck, |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by cava1593 on August 17th, 2005 09:38:32 PM Hello. Thanks for your answer.I do have a 3 pcs network set at home already.I've got two PC PIV2.6G with 1.00G ram each and I have my server 2003 which is 2x 2.8Ghz/512/533Mhz XEON with 512MB DDR266Mhz ECC.Regarding that last sentence of yours which I quote "never paid for instruction except for some ebooks on CD" is it possible to get my hands on a certificat without paing for it?Best regards and many thanks to you all.Carlos ArrudaCava |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by normajean4 on August 23rd, 2005 08:03:38 PM You can study at home with books bought in a store or borrowed from a friend but you will have to pay for the exams. I studied at home for my first exam Windows 95 (now that was a tough one believe it or not) with books I picked up a computer store. Passed the exam on my first try. For my MCSE I did take a 6 month program at a local computer school at a cost of $8500 Cdn but because I was unemployed about $7000 of that was covered through unemployment insurance which was great. If you have a home network setup, the time to study at home and the aptitude for this line of work then you don't need to attend a school and pay big money to become certified. |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by cava1593 on August 26th, 2005 12:32:39 AM Hello Cleo. Can you please tell me how to start that?I mean what should I do and how/where to do the exams????Best regardsCarlos Arruda |
Where can I go? What Can I do? MCSE by normajean4 on August 29th, 2005 08:54:15 PM If you are good at self directed learning and you have the equipment at home to do the exercises then just buy the Microsoft books or non-Microsoft equivalent like Sybex which offers the same material at a lower price. Do all the exercises in the book, follow the study guides in the book. Take some free online practice exams and when you are ready, you call up and book the exam - see the Prometric website for details on how to register for the exams and where you can take them. Pick the easiest subject first and build up to the harder ones. |
