Installation AbortedConfiguration:
I had just purchased a new software and could not continue with the installation process because of this error:
INVALID DATA TYPE FOR
C:\\\\WINDOWS\\\\SYSTEM\\\\MSVCRT40.DLL

I experienced the same problem on another computer with Windows ME Op System, but could instal on a computer with Windows XP Pro. I tried running the patch msvcrt40.exe. This replaced the msvcrt40.dll, but the same error still occurred. What can I do? The software is supposed to be installabe on Window 98, ME ... The software supply statesw he has never experienced this error message before and is checking on it.
Operating System : Windows 98
CPU/Processor : Intel Pentium III
RAM : 128 MB

MSVCRT40.dll is the Microsoft C++ Runtime Library.

just type sfc in the Run box (hit Return key) and you can restore the original version from your W98 CD using the file extract feature. This file does not appear to ever update so you are quite safe to use the file from the CD. Note that it is not always safe to use sfc for any old file.

SFC will direct it to c:\windows\system (which is correct).
