| Initializing NTKERN. Windows Protection error | Configuration: |
I get this message on booting up my Toshiba 730CDT notebook. I just installed a memory upgrade (128Meg), and the memory seems to be recognized on initialization, but then I get this error. What's going on? How can I fix?
Additional Comments: When I did a step by step boot, I also got the message HIMEM.SYS detected unreliable XMS memory at 04022006 XMD DRV not installed
| Operating System : Windows 98
CPU/Processor : Pentium MMX 150 MHz
RAM : Noteworthy Actual:128 MB

Re: Initializing NTKERN. Windows Protection error by scorpio on April 15th, 2004 02:00:54 AM Are you sure you have Windows 98. I think you have Windows NT.
In any case, boot from a floppy or CD and run the setup of your OS and everything will be fine. No need to format. This way all your data and programs will also remain intact and problem will be fixed as well.
If you experience any problems with any softwares as well, then you should re-install them also.
The problem is due to RAM upgrade. Some programs configure them accordingly to the amount of RAM, which they detect at the time of installtion which later causes a problem when amount of RAM is increased or decreased. |
Re: Initializing NTKERN. Windows Protection error by Anonymous Ghost on April 10th, 2006 02:42:08 AM I had the same problem on startup and It is related to RAM, which could be defective or incompatible. they need to be replaced. It happens with Win98, SE, and ME OS.
