i had the same problem. "while initializing device vkd". its caused by a power failure. what you need to do is insert the win 98 boot cd and type the following command on the dos prompt to run scandisk d:\win98\scandisk.exe/all.
this should fix the problem.

I got here on a google search after the same problem. Got into the box and noticed the fan had stopped (dust). Finger prod started the fan, but no change & I feared the worst (cpu cooked?). However, I rewrote bios and setup defaults and the machine now seems to work. |

replace keyboard and after that reinstall the keyboard driver for old keyboard.. |

while initializing configmg,windows protection error.It could be mose when y trie step by step prompt comad it allways,stop me when y arrived to mouse instation but y dont know how to fix the problem,Y tried to reinstal windows but it is imposibile alway stop me with windows protection error. |

Went as far as the first post. Scandisk fixed this issue. I did not change the keyboard, was about to if scandisk did not resolve the problem, Thank you!!! |
