Need help - VIRTUAL MEMORY!Configuration:
Alright, apparently I got in way over my head. I was helping my girlfriend by doing some routine things to help speed up her computer for her (defragmenting her computer's hard drive, etc). After doing a few other basic house cleaning things - I decided to see what else I could do. I went to PCMag.com and found an article about speeding up the computer. They had an article about optimizing the file swap. The instructions were to disable the use of virtual memory, restart the computer, run scandisk on thorough mode, and then re-enable virtual memory. The problem is, after disabling virtual memory and restarting the computer - I WAS UNABLE TO RUN SCANDISK! Now, the computer struggles to open up control panel (of course, it cannot run programs that automatically start with windows), and I cannot even re-access the system mode from control panel to reset the original virtual memory settings.
Is there anything I can do? I need some instructions, because while I have some knowledge at computers - I'm not a brain child with them (as you can see).
Thanks for the help in advance!

Go to Start>Run and type in
Control.exe Sysdm.cpl,,3
and press enter. There is a single
space after .exe. See if this opens
the system panel for you.

If the above fails, try scanreg /restore (note the space between scanreg and the slash) in the run command to a time before you made the changes.
Close all running programs using ctrl+alt+del except explorer and systray before attempting to restore the registry.

my computers virtual memory is reporting the available space as a
-23433 number, it is very slow and won't run scandisk or defragmentoe.
