Computer DeadConfiguration:
I have just built a system from various parts but have hit a snag. When I powered it up, the CPU fan, disks, DVD and CD drive all power up but I get no signal on the monitor. I have tried swapping the video card and clearing the BIOS on the motherboard with the power disconnected but no joy. Before I fork out for a new motherboard, can anyone think of anything I have missed.
Operating System : W2K SP3
CPU/Processor : AMD 2000+ 512MB DDR
RAM : AMD 2000+ 512MB DDR

Have you tried a different monitor? Are you sure that the brightness on the monitor is turned up?

Also, examine the pins on the monitor cable closly and make sure that one of them is not bent over or pushed inside the connector. Is the Monitor getting power?

The monitor displays "No Signal Input" and it works fine on another system, so I think the monitor/cable are OK

Is it a AGP card or a PCI card? If it's AGP make sure its set to 2x, 4x ,8x or whatever it is in the bios, hmmm... well I guess if the monitor doesn't work you can't see the bios huh. Do you know which jumper to pull on the motherboard to clear the bios? If so pull it and let it reset itself to the bios defaults and see if it will work then.
Check the pins on it anyway just for good measure. I had one that would do the exact same thing one time and was about to throw it away, when a friend of mine happen to examine the connector and noticed a pin that was pushed up in the connector. We pulled it back out and it ran like a top. I'm not saying thats your problem, just trying to check all angles.

I'm using a tried and tested Virage S3 PCI card. The pins are all OK. I dont get any sound from the speaker, so I suspect it isnt even getting as far as video.

I don't know man, I would still at least try reseting the bios before changing the mother board, but from everything your saying it probably is a bad motherboard.

What motherboard did you use? Does the motherboard have onboard video? Does it have an AGP slot? If the board has either one then the PCI card might not work until the BIOS is configured to use it. Another point is whether there are any jumpers on it. Please indicate what you are using as this might answer some of the questions to us.
