| No desktop, taskbar, icons at start | Configuration: |
|
My computer was running slow & when I restarted it, the desktop was completely blank - no icons, taskbar, start menu etc. THe only thing on the screen was the background picture for the desktop. I tried several things and found that Cntrl Alt Del did bring up that box and I was able to hit new task and open some things on the computer. When I typed in explorer and tried opening that, the icons, desktop and everything did appear. HOwever, they all disappear and reappear (almost as if refreshing) approx every 5-10 seconds so it's very difficult to open anything. I restarted the computer in safe mode and ran virus & spyware scans and delete most everything from startup in msconfig. But when I restarted the computer, same thing happens - nothing until I open explorer, then everything refreshs constantly. Any ideas???Emachines

No desktop, taskbar, icons at start by bstorm504 on May 05th, 2005 10:39:37 PM I have had the same problem for several days (nights) on my home pc an HP 810 running Windows xp home. I was wondering if the fixes finally worked for tweeteina. The system recovery I tried last night worked for 2 boots and then the problem was back. |
No desktop, taskbar, icons at start by tweetetina5 on April 25th, 2005 12:39:12 AM Well I checked for updates to exporer & downloaded some...got the icons, taksbar & start menu back, but everything was incredibly slow and freezing up - couldn't really do anything. Finally made it online & downloaded the security task manager & ran that (quarantined a couple files that were starting at startup that were marked as risks(in Sherrie's response above - though I did not have the file she mentioned) and everything seems OK so far. (BUT I haven't rebooted my computer yet either...lol...I'm afraid to)Emachines |
No desktop, taskbar, icons at start by bwana2 on April 25th, 2005 12:22:04 AM I was having this same problem with an XP-Pro SP2 machine. It all started at boot up this morning. Neither the user nor any other account on the computer including the administrators account had any desktop functions. Just wallpaper and mouse curser. Ctl-alr-del did not even invoke task manager. After a few hours I traced the problem to PC-Cillin Internet Security 2004. After disabling and uninstalling it the system worked fine. I was able to reinstall PC-Cillin and after all the updates it is working great. I have 4 other clones of this workstation running the same software, with the same settings, but have had just this one occurrence. It is obvious from all the research I did on line that there can be many cause’s for this behavior. I hope this is of help to some one out there. |
No desktop, taskbar, icons at start by sherrie3 on April 24th, 2005 01:57:39 PM Hi. Same problem and after staying up all night trying to figure it out.. here is what I found. Ctrl alt delete.. find the file bxomebc.exe and remove it. This will get your task bar up but the file will return upon restart. I downloaded security task manager (http://www.download.com/Securi...) restarted my pc and opened this under new task so it could scan the above file. It came back as a security risk and it gives you the option to quarantine it. So far.. so good.. but no luck in finding out how it got there. Hope this works for you. |

No desktop, taskbar, icons at start by supernova055 on April 23rd, 2005 09:45:23 AM I finally found someone with the same problem I'm having. My system:400SCWin XP ProNorton Internet security 05No Virus's foundTask Bar gone as well. I re-created my user accounts and the task bar was visble again on all but mine. But after a few logins, they disappeared again. Microsoft told me that I needed to repair and/or re-install the OS, but I don't have the CD either.Checking properties of the Task bar shortcut I created from the control panel, the tried the "Find Target" buttom, but it only leads me to the shortcut in the control panel and I can't find the source beyond that. Task Bars are visble in Safe Mode.Sorry, but I can only help by stating the similarity of our problem and currently have no suggestions. I need help too.I will advise my progress ASAP |
