| shdoclc.dll error when surfing net | Configuration: |
Hi all, i have recently been experiencing problems when surfing the net that have occured ever since i upgraded my OS fomr windows 98 to windows 2000. I am finding that i can be surfing the net for around 20-30mins then all of a sudden i will click a link to a page or type in a URL address e.g www.google.co.uk and i will be taken to a page "this page can not be displayed" which has the URL of res://C:WINDOWSsystem32shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http://google.co.uk. I have up to date SP packs up to 4 for my windows 2000 and run off a dial up connection with uk2net as my ISP. I know that it is not the modem or the ISP as i have tried both on my other PC and it works fine. I have tried searching for this file shdoclc.dll and it finds 2 results i tried to rename the old one and replace it with the latest version to see if this has any effect but i cant as the file is in use. This is really driving me up the wall PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by jam14o on April 12th, 2004 12:33:29 AM I doubt you need to worry about the DLL file. All this is doing is providing the "Page Not Displayed" error page. I know this sounds obvious but have you checked whether you have been disconnected from your dialup connection? (That is, when you see this page.)

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by jam14o on April 12th, 2004 12:46:30 AM Hace you checked lately for viruses or trojans? Also, do you have a firewall? Apart from these suggestions, I'm pretty clueless... Anyone else got any suggestions?

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by jam14o on April 12th, 2004 01:41:55 AM Try searching for malware with either Ad-Aware or Spybot Search & Destroy. BTW, this is a completely wild guess! And another thing: try using a different web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox.

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by drburk on April 15th, 2004 10:26:39 AM I have had the same problem since last night. I downloaded a file at http://www.new.net/support/uninstall4_80.exe It solved the problem temporarily (2 hours) but the problem came back. I think it's a new parasite. I'm actually typing this message from my sister's email because I can't access my hotmail account! So much for the $100 Platinum Internet security package we bought three days ago. If anyone knows of a patch that will fix this problem can you let me know? Thanks Brad

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by Anonymous Ghost on May 05th, 2004 02:04:41 AM Help me!!! I'm having the same problem.
There is deffinately a new parasite on the system. Spybot S&D doesn't find it. I fixed the problem initially by searching my system for all files added while i was online (after deleting the temp internet fles) and foundd some things that after deletion seemed to solve the problem. However, I recently updates my system with win update, and the prblem is back. Update and problem may be unrelated. Please help |

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by Anonymous Ghost on December 23rd, 2004 04:37:36 AM hi all.
i've been experiencing this problem for a week now and it's driving me nuts, but at least now i know it's not just MY PC, but a common problem by now to users all over the world (i'm in Athens, Greece btw). actually my version of the problem is a bit weirder: i open IE6 (using Windows XPhome) and it loads the home page for, like, 5-6 seconds. then, it starts refreshing without me touching anything. it refreshes by itself every second. on the address line, it says 'http:///' (3 slashes, it's not a mistake) and it looks like an error page. at the bottom, in the status bar, i could only make out that filename (shdoclc.dll) so i searched my system and found it twice, along with its brother, shdocvw.exe. i tried deleting all of them. the dll file got deleted but the exe was apparently in use, so a couple of seconds later the dll REAPPEARED in the search results page! i deleted it again, and again, only for it to reappear. i've used Ad-Aware, Spybot, Stinger. nothing.
so i left it at that. my Netscape is a very old version 'cause i wasn't using it (only Composer occasionally) but the thing is, i don't want to find alternatives. i'd just like to solve the problem. if anyone finds anything, i'd be grateful.

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by Anonymous Ghost on January 19th, 2005 04:22:19 PM My roomate and I both have win 98. Her computer came down with this problem(shdoclc.dll error) after webroot spysweeper was installed on her computer. It hasn't been able to access web pages since, whether rebooted or refreshed a million times. our isp comcast said we were connected, and should be able to access the internet. My computer worked fine for monthes after hers. spysweeper had also been installed on my computer with no ill effects. Then one day while speaking on the phone with IBM tech support and disconnecting her computer from the modem, then connecting mine, my computer started having the same problem. what the heck!? Comcast tech support couldn't help. IBM suggested reinstalling windows(didn't work) now what??
please help us.

Re: shdoclc.dll error when surfing net by Anonymous Ghost on August 02nd, 2005 04:48:22 AM Just wanted to share that I tried this as someone suggested on another site and it worked for me.
Go into your IE browser.. Go to Tools
then Internet Options then Connections.
Go to Lan Settings this is where I found my problem. It seems someone hacked into my settings and had enter a proxy info. I just unchecked it and voila I am now able to surf the net via my Internet Explorer. Good Luck and I hope this works for you all. |

1. To begin, remove Dial-Up Networking as follows:
Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs, then select the 'Windows Setup' tab. Highlight the 'Communications' component and click on the 'Details' button. Perform the following sequence of steps; click 'YES', if asked, when deleting:

· Click + on 'Services' below that,

· Highlight the 'Winsock2' folder below, right click the mouse, then select 'Delete',
· Locate the 'VxD' folder above where the Winsock folders were (still inside 'Services'),
· Click + on 'VxD',
· Highlight the 'AFVXD' folder below, right click the mouse, then select 'Delete',
· Highlight the 'DHCP' folder below, right click the mouse, then select 'Delete',
· Highlight the 'MSTCP' folder below, right click the mouse, then select 'Delete',
· Highlight the 'Winsock2' folder below, right click the mouse, then select 'Delete'.
Exit the registry editor.
3. Re-install Dial-Up Networking as follows:
Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs, then select the 'Windows Setup' tab. Highlight the 'Communications' component and click on the 'Details.' button. Check the box for 'Dial-Up Networking', then accept all changes by clicking 'OK' wherever appearing. Restart the computer when prompted.
Start the Internet browser and display a web page. Everything should work normally. |
