| Conexant-Ambit soft56 modem Issues | Configuration: |
|
I just updated a Sony Vaio PCG-FX240 from Win ME to Win XP. Laptop works great except for the modem which happens to be a Conexant-Ambit soft56k modem which is what Win ME Identified it as. Well I did a fresh install of Xp w/ SP2 Intergrated and it will not even see the modem. The device manager doesn't see anything, not even an unknown device. I updated the bios (sony's site) after all of this and reset back to original defaults to see If I could get the modem to show up. Still nothing. I also tried the patch for the modem which is in the form of a exe file like all sony patches and it says: "The hardware is not found, please reboot the computer." I did some searches and found alot of people having the same problem. And its not the modem, I could install Win me back on and have a working modem. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Conexant-Ambit soft56 modem Issues by chadj773 on August 14th, 2005 02:21:51 PM Oh one other thing. Blackbill, sony does have the driver, but as I said its in the form of an exe installation file. If you check the website they do have detailed information about OS migration. And they also have drivers specifically for that modem and laptop model (OS's include Win Me, XP, and 2000 drivers). The Xp drivers will not work because the hardwarew for some reason is not being seen. If it is something like "justme" said then I will have to find actual driver files instead of and installation archive (exe) inwhich sony has every driver in that format. Thanks for the comments |
Conexant-Ambit soft56 modem Issues by chadj773 on August 14th, 2005 01:02:40 PM Thanks for replying blackbill and justme. Ya I figured I might be out of luck but I am going to try and try before I have to drop 50 bucks on a pcmcia card modem for it. Right now I am at work but I will try that website. Thanks for the help and if anyone else has anything on this please reply. I will reply back if I get it working. Thanks again |
Conexant-Ambit soft56 modem Issues by blackbill4 on August 14th, 2005 09:45:17 AM It's not at all uncommon to have driver problems when updating to XP, especially with laptops.XP's drivers are vastly different from the previous OS's... and finding update drivers for laptops is almost always done through the laptop manufaturer. This is because some if not all of the hardware within a laptop is custom made for the model in question. So, if Sony does not have the driver (and a quick look tells me they don't) you are out of luck. |
Conexant-Ambit soft56 modem Issues by justme3 on August 14th, 2005 09:35:57 AM I struck the same problem about 12months ago. Had to download a few different drivers before I struck gold. You might want to try the Modem Drivers website. You need to load the software/drivers first before XP will see the modem.Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten. |
