Re: Password protecting folders by curtr3 on April 13th, 2004 06:26:19 PM Why would you want to? That's antiquated security. If you're running 2000 and using NTFS then you simply need to remove the Everyone group from the ACL on the share in question (I remove it entirely from the root and all folders below) and then add the group or user account you wish to allow access to the share to the ACL and then edit the type of permissions you want that group or user account to have. This is a lot simpler and then you and your users don't need to remember a lot of passwords.

Re: Password protecting folders by schwar on April 14th, 2004 04:15:58 AM I know how to set permissions for folders which are being shared, but what about for folders which are not?

Re: Password protecting folders by on April 14th, 2004 05:31:26 PM To set permissions on folders/files, your file system should be NTFS. If so, right-click on the folder you want to set permissions and click on properties. At the end you can see the security tab.

Re: Password protecting folders by schwar on April 16th, 2004 03:35:54 AM Hmmm. I'm pretty sure I was advised years ago not to go with NTFS so that I could still use a DOS bootdisk to play old games. In any case, when I right-click on a folder I'm only shown the 'General' and 'Sharing' folders. I am logged in as an administrator, so is the only solution to change to NTFS or use a 3rd-party program? Neither option seems very appealing right now.
