scanning a documentConfiguration:
I have scanned an invoice I made into my computer, and it was saved as a .jpeg. I can't manipulate it- by "manipulate", I mean I can't Change the text around, write on it, and use it like I would use a Microsoft Word document. My friend told me this is because .jpeg is a picture format, and you can't write on a picture. can someone tell me how I can scan this picture in to be able to use it like a word document? Is there a format I can save it as, or is there a software program I can buy? Operating System : Windows XP

SimpleOCR is a good freebie that does simple text as noted above.A "good" OCR program that can do tables and frames start at about $600 US. (unless they have come down since I last checked)Bryan

Since you don't state what type of scanner you have, it's difficult to tell you exactly what options you have. Michael goes it right though. Some scanners allow you to save the file as an editable text file. Look at your scanner window and see what options you have as far as file types.Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

You need OCR software (Optical Character Recognition). It will scann a document and "attempt" to convert the images into text. Better OCR programs do a better job. The accuracy of the conversion will also be affected by the typeface (i.e. font) used and the contrast between the text and the backgroun. There may be some mistakes that you will need to correct after the process.Your scanner might have came with some kind of OCR software, but it may not have been obvious. Check the software that was installed with the scanner.
