| Problems with new Win2K Ad Server | Configuration: |
I am adding a Windows 2K Advanced Server to a Windows 2000 domain. I gave the server a static IP address. However, it's not holding the IP address. DHCP is assigning it a different address which I'm not sure why this is happening. It works for awhile but after an hour or so, it stops working because I think there is an IP conflict. If I restart the server, it works again for a short while but then stops. Does anyone have an idea? Things I've tried: --Uninstalling and reinstalling network card driver. --Assigning the static IP address logged on locally. --Tried different IP addresses that are in my exclusion range. --Verified my subnet mask to be correct. --Threw the server on the ground twice as hard as I could. Please help if you can! Sean

Re: Problems with new Win2K Ad Server by wander on April 14th, 2004 11:04:44 PM Two options with dhcp. "reserve" the address. You do this my associating the nic cards mac address with a particular ip address. This is a way of "hard coding" dhcp to only assign that address to that device. put a static ip address on the server and REMOVE that address from the dhcp ip pool

Re: Problems with new Win2K Ad Server by smcow3 on April 14th, 2004 11:24:50 PM I've done the second suggestion, and it didn't work. I haven't tried reserving yet because I have not done this with any other servers or machines. I wanted to try and figure it out without reserving the IP. Any other suggestions. Thanks. Sean
