| PC not booting? | Configuration: |
|
I am trying to fix a pc. When I plug the pc in it immediately turns on and just runs. Nothing comes up on the screen. I took out the hard drive & scanned with some anti virus/spyware software & cleaned about 279 virus/spyware. Does anyone know what I can do now? Is there a boot disc or something I can use? She does not have an XP disc. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks!

PC not booting? by suatcini4 on October 18th, 2005 04:08:10 AM Hello. If you cannot see BIOS boot screen when you first turn on your PC, then your M/B could be the problem part. Can you boot to Windows XP CD-ROM ?My suggestion is, remove the case cover and see if anything has popped out of its place, such as RAM sticks, power cables, etc. Then a careful cleaning should follow. Sometimes dust and moisture combined can create a short in the circuits on the cards.Maybe a faulty power-on switch could be the culprit.Hope the above helps.Regardssuatcini |
PC not booting? by shoefactory5 on October 17th, 2005 10:53:16 PM Thanks for the responses! First, the pc doesn't turn off, plug it in and it’s on? (Tried holding power button down, nothing.) couple times the power light on the case blinked. The fan on the power supply & on the processor is on. I am not hearing any noise from the hard drive. I did plug the drive in my pc & it was present. Nothing comes up on the screen like when you turn your pc off & leave the monitor on. It’s my monitor so it works. The pc doesn’t have any dust in it but I'll try taking everything out & cleaning it. Any other ideas would be appreciated |

PC not booting? by suatcini4 on October 17th, 2005 11:57:38 AM Hello. What else do you want of the PC if it " just runs " when you plug it in ?Do you mean black screen when you say " nothing comes up on the screen " or you mean user name and password does not show up ?Please reveal some more information.Regardssuatcini |
PC not booting? by johnr2 on October 17th, 2005 02:53:15 AM When you say 'nothing comes up on the screen', do you mean exactly that? - no BIOS messages etc.? If so, just repairing Windows won't help as it's a more basic fault. Which parts of the PC run? - is it just the power supply?, do other fans work? can you hear the hard drive 'clicking'? Have you checked the monitor is ok? Reseat all cards; If there's a PCI modem try removing that. Let us know a bit more."I know that I'm mad - I've always been mad..." |
