Exchange not creating mailboxConfiguration:
Please help!
I create a new user in AD (Windows 2K) and it says it is creating an Exchange mailbox with the creation of the new user. I have done this hundreds of times before and never had a problem.
For whatever reason, the user gets created, but the mailbox is never created in the Message Store. The username shows up in the global address list, I have tried emailing a test message to force the creation of the mailbox, but no luck. I have tried logging in as the user, I log on to the network with no problem, but can't open Outlook because the user has no permissions (except SELF), which should be solved by either sending a message to the box or logging in, but no luck.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Scott
Oh yeah, and I'm getting the following error in my application log.
Disabled user /o=name/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username does not have a master account SID. Please use Active Directory MMC to set an active account as this user's master account.
Operating System : w2K
CPU/Processor : 1Gb

I had the same issue today on an Exchange 2003 on 2003 sbs server. Rocking along fine otherwise. I receive the same master aco***** sid messages for multiple accounts, so assume that whatever service is trying to generate the mailbox (attendant?) is creating the messages (mine does it for disabled accounts), and that is is not related aside from the service trying to create the account. I have not tried stopping and starting the store yet, can try that tonight.

Did you end up resolving it?

Cheers,

I was having the same problem
SBS 2003
Created a new user but no BOX!

I found my problem

I had created a new recovery storage group and added the database to recover

it seemed that when a new user was created that it put the new user somehow into the recovery tank

I deleted the user, deleted the recovery database in exchange and then re-created the user.

hope this helps

i've also seen this happen on a number of sbs2003 boxes.

generally speaking, stopping all the exchange services and starting them again fixes this.

alternatively you could just reboot the server for the same effect.. haven't found the root cause of this yet.

I see this happen from time to time. My solution is to stop exchange services and start them back up. This has always worked for me.

We are currently having this problem. I plan to reboot tonight and tomorrow I will see if that fixes the problem

i had the same problem just a few days ago, I discovered that the Server was "thinking" after i created a new user, and after like a minute it created the mailbox... but now in a different server (from another company) it has the same problem but it never creates the mailbox... i dont know why it happens...

The Fix

Fixing the problem is very easy. It happens when you disable a mailbox-enabled Windows account, all that needs to be done is to grant the SELF account Associated External Account and Full Mailbox Access permissions to the mailbox. This is done via Active Directory Users and Computers, where you navigate to the affected user account, bring up the properties, click the Exchange Advanced tab and then click the Mailbox Rights button. This is fully documented in the Microsoft knowledgebase article 278966.
