| Slow Boot Time | Configuration: |
First time posting. I'm having some serious boot annoyances.
I'm running a Sony VAIO RZ34G which came with XP Home preinstalled; P4 2.8GHz; 512MB RAM. Norton Antivirus and Firewall. Keep current with Windows update and Norton Live Update.
When I turn the computer on, it sits on the Sony splash screen for two minutes then goes to the Windows XP splash screen for another two minutes. However, when Windos comes up, everything runs fine. This started about two weeks ago when I got back from a trip. I used msconfig to remove unnecessary startup items as recommedned elsewhere on this site. Still no help. Below is a HijackThis Startup Log. Please help!!!

Re: Slow Boot Time by ziha79 on December 10th, 2004 09:55:46 AM I had a problem where my machine took about 3 to 5 minutes to boot up with XP. It turned out that the problem occurred with a conflict in my network connections between the broadband connection (created when installing software provided by my internet provider) and a network connection associated with my ethernet card.
I solved the problem by going into device manager, right clicked on the ethernet card under network adapters and properties. I then deselected the all the boxes that were checked that contained TCP protocols etc. Now rebooting takes less than 30 seconds!
I believe the problem developed following one of the XP updates. |
