| How to recover boot sector | Configuration: |
|
I have accedently deleted my boot sector today, i am currently using an old ide drive that i installed to help fix the problem. There are a ton of programs that help you restore boots sectors, but they all cost money, and i need to make sure i am using the right one. Is there any way to restore my boot sector, and use my hard drive as it was. I didn't partition over the drive yet. And i have used a few programs to restore the files, and i see that they are all there, but I can't restore the boot sector for sure, unless i buy them and try too. I'm running windows xp home SP2 if that helps anyHELP ME SOMEBODY!!!

How to recover boot sector by stuarts3 on April 16th, 2006 05:34:27 AM You can restore the boot sector by boot-ting from your Windows CD and selecting the first repair option. This will put you into the Recovery Console. You will need the Administrators Password for this. From the recovery console command line type Fixboot X: X being the drive you want to fix the boot record on.Reboot and you should be fine.Stuart |
Re: How to recover boot sector by Anonymous Ghost on August 21st, 2005 06:12:55 AM Obtain a Windows XP Home Edition CD if you have lost yours already. Boot from this CD. (Allow a few minutes to go by before you do type anything.) You will eventually come to a screen that will welcome you to windows setup and you will be asked if you want to reapair the installation. DO NOT choose the recovery console. At some point you will be told that setup has found a previous windows installation and will attempt to repair it if you choose to do so. THIS WILL ONLY ERASE YOUR WINDOWS DIRECTORY BUT NOT YOUR OTHER FOLDER OR PROGRAMS. (I've done this many times.) Don't do something stupid like choosing to format your hard drive! You will have to re-enter your CD Key when prompted. Good luck! |
