xp defragmenting problemConfiguration:
i just upgraded from ME to XP last night and i've been trying to defragment my computer all day but with no luck. the loading bar for the defragmenter just keeps getting stuck at "analyzing 10%" i tryed with both the default degragmenter and my diskeeper. i thought maybe there were errors stopping it but i ran a scan disk and it still wont work, any ideas? Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP/2000/NT

hi
This is common error when you upgrade from one OS to another OS.So this might be due to long file names or any invalid file names.Even if you have any virus like Folder.htt, desktop.ini (gost copies) you will get this problem.
So 1st thing is you have to clear the virus.The 2nd is you have to search for any invalid files or long file names using system mechanic s/w.
after doing it make sure you do reboot the sys.
Now you will be able to run scandisk.and defragments.

While defragmenting my D: slave drive (WD JB 200G), at the end of the process I received a message to the effect that there were "file system descrepancies" present and that I would have to run chkdsk to correct them. Problem is, now the disk is RAW and I cannot use chkdsk or recover
