Format Dual Boot XP/98SEConfiguration:
Hi all
I currently have a dual boot system with 98se on C. XP Pro on D. However i'd like to format my D drive only, and reinstall XP (annual housekeeping thing). Would I be right in thinking, all I need to do is format my D drive and reinstall?? I still want to keep my dual boot with 98 and XP.

Thanks in advance

Additional Comments:
C is FAT32, D is NTFS, and I know that I won't be able to format it under 98.
Operating System : Windows 98SE, XP Pro
CPU/Processor : AMD Athlon 1.33 MHz
RAM : Actual:256 MB
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA7-DX
Partition Details : c: 20gb
d: 20gb
e: 80gb

You'll keep your dual boot as long as xp is not installed first.Install any other operating system first.

I have an eMachine D2880 and want a dual boot system with W-98 and W-XP.

I partitioned the 80G HD into 4 partitions. C: and F: is formatted to FAT32, D: and F: is formatted to NTFS. I installed W-98se to C:.

The version of XP that comes with the eMachine D2880 has an automatic install only feature that installs to C: only.

I want to know if installing XP on another HD (40G)and then using a program like GHOAST 2003 to transfer the XP install from the second HD to partition D: on the 80G HD will work.

Any other suggestion to get around the auto restore feature on the XP restore CD that comes with the eMachines.

I have W-98se, W2000,and the "DUMB" XP restore CD that comes with the eMachines. I did not want to buy another XP operating sys disc but will if I have to.

I repair old printers and need 98 to teat the old printers. I have not found XP drivers for some of the older printers.

I want to know if installing XP on another HD (40G)and then using a program like GHOAST 2003 to transfer the XP install from the second HD to partition D: on the 80G HD will work.

I installed XP on another HD and then used Ghoast 2003 to copy the XP partition of the spare HD to D: on the 80GB HD. It did not work.

Somehow the XP transfer wrote something somewhere on the 80GB HD ( W98se installed first on C: prior to the partition copy) so instead of starting W98 at boot time, XP boots up automatically.

Any suggestions?

All operating systems have their boot records on C: first before selecting other drives for system files. You might have to re-install your win98 and then from the win98, run a normal winXp installation. Otherwise, you'd continue having thesame problems. Be careful not to format your C: though, you know the implications to your files on C:. Rather, after installing the win98 again, slot in your WinXp bootable cd, at the installation choice interface, press (r), log on to your WinXp installed on your D: and type the following:
chkdsk /r
Good luck.
