Winlogon.exe - Application ErrorConfiguration:
When I attempt to login to admin profile I get a message says \"The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click on ok to terminate the program or click on cancel to debug the program.

Additional Comments:
If I click ok then the machine reboots. If I click cancel it forces a reboot too. If I just leave the message up, eventually I can get into windows but it takes a while. If I leave it alone then the PC works fine; I just have to work around the problem. I can not find a reference to this problem anywhere.

Hey guys, i am the one above with the list from 1-9 of things i have tried.
I can tell you I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM easly by seeing an application error in the event viewer and the error caused by a dll file. deleting this file simply solved the problem after I have tried everything else even windows repair! so there you go... if you don't have enough information on the file that cause the error you may also download from microsoft "checked winlogon.exe" to debug it, this will create a very informativ log that will tell you EXACTLY what cause it! ENJOY

I found a bug in winlogon.exe w32/backdoor.PDG In XP safemode, look in WINDOWS\System and System32\. Append a character to the end of winlogon like a, the restart and logon again. Run your virus software and it will or should find the renamed version and the virus identified as above. That file can be safely deleted. You must be careful, because winlogon.exe is supposed to be a good file. Its the one which is in the wrong place that is phoney.
