Reset/Recover Password (Not Windows Logon) to Boot PC?Configuration:
I know very little about computers, so I apologize in advance if my questions are too basic and for posting in the wrong category. I have an older Gateway desktop computer with Windows '95 that was given to me by someone else. I don't have any manuals or instructions for it. A friend's child reset the system password which is required before you can access Windows '95 or any application on the computer. After turning on the computer, I get a screen that allows me to choose between going to "Setup" or booting the system BUT has a password. I have to enter the password to go forward with either option. If after 3 tries the password isn't entered correctly, I get a message that says the password is incorrect and the system has been halted. How do I recover the last password or reset it? I've searched the posts on Nibble Guru but I'm not certain what type of password this is --for example is this a "BIOS password" or a "System Password"? I've also seen references to reseting the jumper switch on the motherboard and removing the "CMOS" battery but I don't know what these are or how I would do this. I really appreciate any help anyone can give me with this. Operating System : Microsoft Windows 95
