I have had the same problem with my biostar motherboard. I found that I needed to set the bios to AGP card instead of the PCI default setting. I also took out the video card and reinstalled it. Sometimes they develop a connection problem.

Laptop freezes after a while and won't even shutdown. I have to wait for the battery to die before it will turn off. Any help appreciated.

Video Card drivers. Uninstall and i mean uninstall all together and see if it works... the video card may be defective or drivers corrupted or overheating.
