| Laptop will not turn on | Configuration: |
|
I have a HP zt1260. When the notebook is connected to an ac outlet, all indicator lights along bottom and above the keyboard stay on continuously. When I unplug the ac source and run from battery, the same thing occurs when I hit the on/off button. Do you have any idea what is causing this and how difficult it is to fix? Any information would be most helpful. Thanks!

Re: Laptop will not turn on by Anonymous Ghost on October 10th, 2006 09:11:35 AM Here is the problem I had with the HP zt1260. Laptop dead - no activity upon pressing the power button. However, status lights are on, indicating there is power to the laptop. After extensive research (and no help from HP tech support) I found out many hp notebooks suffer from a bug in their Embedded Controller's [EC]. In order to reset the bug-prone EC you have to reset it. Here are the instructions for doing that:
Step 1: Remove the battery from the notebook
Step 2: Press and hold the following keys: “Fn”, “B” and “Q”
Step 3: Apply (Connect) the AC adapter to the notebook while press and hold the keys in step 2
Step 4: Wait for 30 seconds or longer. You may observe all panel LEDs be “OFF”
Step 5: Release keys “Fn”, “B” and “Q”
Step 6: Press the power button to boot up the notebook. If all panel LEDs are still “ON” you may need to press and hold the power button several times. This will help to reset the “EC”
Step 7: Insert the battery to the notebook
Step 8: Flash the notebook with the latest BIOS version 1.04, BIOS BID “BID10404.RET” |
