| Win2000 Pro Svchost problem | Configuration: |
|
Well I think I've read most of the discussions on this so I'm going to post a new one. I have win2000 pro, and just a little bit after I get on the internet SVChost.exe starts taking 100% CPU usage. I've reformatted my computer quite a few time now, even put brand new hard drives in. The only way I've found to temporarily fix this is by making svchost not restart when I terminate it. My computer has become fairly useless.....I can't copy, paste, or move files, my programs error all the time because of svchost, and of course every virus scanner I try finds zero. I also can hardly open any links or use ANY javascript functions. I've been trying to deal with this problem for about a year now, so if anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Re: Win2000 Pro Svchost problem by raziel_ie on October 21st, 2004 12:37:05 PM So I have the same problem. I've searched for solution but it seems that the problem is quite a new. I think the problem is in SP4. But not sure of this. If I find solution I'll post it here.

Also read this article

Also look to see if you have winole.exe and/or lvvsiy.exe on your computer, if so, go into safe mode and delete them and all the registry settings that refer to them, also make sure your computer is running nice and smooth ie, doesnt need to be defraged, etc.
Also check out the whole http://grc.com/ site
Hope this helps |

Two Steps...
Rid yourself of all Trojans (You have Some), Use a good Anti-virus.
Step Two...
Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
DISABLE everything you don't NEED.
But Please make sure you know about each and every one before you Disable it...
Try 'windows 2000 configuration' in google to find out...
www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm is good, but wasn't enough, search his site deeper into http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/strangeservice.htm and 'even then' Disable what you can, .. take his advice (on the site, there is a PDF to download also), It DEFINATELY fixes this problem, svchost.exe is not a virus, it acts as a 'host' to what needs to be done and if you have your pants down, well... |
