aol.exe fileConfiguration:
I can't open jpeg, pdf and certian other files. System responds that it requires aol.exe file to open these and can't locate this.
Do i need aol.exe to open these files? If so, how do I download this file?
IO used to be an AOL subscriber but have deleted this long ago.
Very frustrating!!!

your file associations have got disturbed.

open My Computer
click Tools menu, then Folder Options item.
then click the 'file types' tab.
select the file type for jpeg. click edit/change.
select browse and select the application you wish to use to view those files with. keep clicking 'ok'

repeat the steps for pdf etc and other file types.

easier way:
install a image viewer, it will automatically associate files to itself.
install acrobat reader again, so that you can read pdf files etc.

Your problem is elementary my friend, you need to designate Ie (Internet Explorer) as your primary browsing utility. Open internet explorer and follow the instructions that I cut and paste from the help screen below:

To reset Internet Explorer settings

If you installed another Web browser after installing Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, some of your Internet Explorer settings may have changed. You can reset your Internet Explorer settings to their original defaults, including your home page and search pages, and choice of default browser, without changing your other browser's settings.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Programs tab.
Click the Reset Web Settings button.

Good luck bud... btw email me at masterparadox99@hotmail.com and let me know if that works... curious...
