Additional Comments:
I am trying to install on a Toshiba Satellite 2805-s401 and keep getting the above error during installation. Anyone got any suggestions?

i tried a fresh installation, and tried the commands:
c:\>sqlplus /nolog
SQL>connect / as sysdba
ERROR:ORA-01041: Internal error, hostdef extension doesn't exist.
I tried re-installing oracle, with all pre-existing entries deleted(from installtion path as well as from registry), and get the following error while configuring the database,i.e.,
ORA-12571: TNS:Writer packet failure.
Please suggest any solution.
