Re: how to install multiple operating systems in a single drive by scorpio on October 05th, 2004 03:21:57 AM Use fdisk command to partition your hard drive. create a primary fat32 partition using fdisk with about 50% of your hdd space.
create a logical fat32 partition of the remaining hdd space.
install windows 98 normally on that partition of the drive.
Windows XP must be installed last. Otherwise important files needed for starting Windows XP could be overwritten
Run the installer for windows xp. select that you wish to install xp in the second partition (logical one, not primary) and let it format the partition to NTFS. after that when installation completes everything should be fine. you will have both operating systems installed and you can boot into any operating system your want.
remember, windows 98 cannot read ntfs partitions so any data present in windows xo will not be available when using win98.
whereas winxp can read fat32 partition and hence all win98 data will be available when using winxp |
