| receiver of MS OUTLOOK contact attachment wont open w/ Yahoo | Configuration: |
I need to open a MS OUTLOOK Contact attachment that was sent to my Yahoo mail account. The sender made a contact in Outlook and then forwarded the contact. However I keep getting an error: Windows cannot open this file: Untitled Attachment [4]. To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer. What do you want to do? Use the web service to find the appropriate program or select the program from a list?
Additional Comments: If I select open program from a list and I use MS Outlook, it opens a compose window in Outlook with the attachment attached ??? but when I click on the attachment it keeps repeating opening a new compose message box with the attachment attached. I know for a fact that the attachment that was originally sent was sent by outlook using this process: In a contact with OUTLOOK, right click and hit forward and send to joeblow@yahoo.com etc.
If I select the \\\\\\\"Use the web service to find the appropriate program option\\\\\\\" I get a white screen on my browser as if the URL doesn\\\\\\\'t exist and it states \\\\\\\"Open the shell.windows.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want\\\\\\\". So I saved the file to my desktop and tried to open it it repeats the same protocol/problem as if I were on line...
Someone said that the file has to be saved as a .pst file first before it can be sent out from OUTLOOK, but I don\\\\\\\'t buy that becuase it is a predetermined option when right clicking on the contact: it says forward and it makes a nice little attachment for you when you are composing in outlook with the contacts name spelled out below the attached ICON. Also I went through every option of programs such as Word, Word Pad, Excel etc. to try and open the attachments and none worked...I get the following error: This attachment is a MAPI 1.0 embedded message and is not supported by this mail system. I don\\\\\\\'t have Yahoo Premium Mail as of now and I don\\\\\\\'t know if that would help, in other words I am willing to do whatever it takes to be able to open the attachments. Would having premium and forwarding it by POP3 off their server into my OUTOOK do anything. I tried forwarding the attachment back to the sender who uses Outlook and he got the following error: It shows an attachment but when opened there is nothing in the attachment. Also when the OUTLOOK attachment was forwarded to hotmail it changed it to a .dat file and still couldn\\\\\\\'t be opened. The Yahoo file by the way when it sits in your inbox shows a .txt file., but still would open with word pad, word or any other program...SO I AM DESPERATE...HOW CAN I OPEN THESE ATTACHEMENTS pleezz

Had to-reinstall MS Outlook (well, actually it was the entire OFFICE 2000 suite). Then, when I opend outlook, all of my previous E-mails were gone. Is there a way to recover them?
Thanks,

Re: receiver of MS OUTLOOK contact attachment wont open w/ Yahoo by Anonymous Ghost on October 14th, 2004 07:08:44 PM I have a similar issue with some recipients not being able to open simple word or excel attachments in Outlook but can open them from Outlook Express. |
