TNS: Packet writer failure occurs during install of oracle 9i
file: .\ora92\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
Previous --> SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
Actually --> SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE) |

Hi All
There is solution for TNS write packet failure error . follow these setps to resolve the issue
1) Uninstall the TCP/IP
2) Export the registry
3) remove all the winsock entry from registry
4) restart the PC
5) install TCP/IP
6) Try to connect to database if you get diffrent error (other than TNS write packet error ) then
7) Uninstall and reinstall the SQL
This steps will resolve the TNS write packet failure error ..

i have installed oracle 6i forms and reports on windows 2000 professional while connecting to database sql plus release 8.0 and Oracle 9i ( 9.2) it gives error 12571 |

I installed oracle 8i enterprise edition on windows xp PC but when I want to go in sqlplus it gives an error ORA-12571 TNS:Packet write failure but if I connect to sqlplus in dos mode i.e at the command prompt then it connects and works fine bu not in gui mode.Can anyone help me on this.

The following DOES NOT work for me.

Prashanth suggestion would probably work, but IF oracle was working, and then stopped working - think about what you changed. I recently was debugging some network traffic - I read the article talking about how Winsock 1.1 cannot pass sockets between processes, blah blah.
End result I uninstalled WinPCap and Ethereal (and some spyware, how did that get there?) and Oracle worked after a restart.
My advice, uninstall some new programs, esp. if they are network oriented, and might have changed your winsock version.
Please post if this works for you. |

This error is usually caused by spyware or adware that is installed on the computer. You may want to run a spyware removal tool (such as Spybot Search and Destroy) to fix such problems. Another cause I have seen for this error having a content filtering program (such as NetNanny) installed; either uninstall that program, or configure it so that it allows the program(s) you are using to pass unfiltered. |

I removed all spywares and I have not installed any new programs. But still I am getting this error when I am trying through Tora, Toad or Workflow. Everything worked fine till 2 days ago. I am working on a laptop running Windows XP home. |

I have the same problem!
I'm using a Forms 6i client.
When I try to connect to the DB (9i) I get the ora-12571 error!
I don't know what to do!
It's not a problem with the firewall or the mcaffee.
