| Oracle 8i client installation over WindowsXP | Configuration: |
Sir,
we have one oracle server and all windows 98 client are communicating with it, but when i tried to install the same client software over Windows XP the installation procedure is stopping at 29% with some error msg, what can i do regarding this problem, actually we want to upgrade all our client from Windows 98 to Windows XP. so could you please tell me the solution

It may not be an XP issue, but perhaps a Pentium 4 issue. The only way I could get it to work was like this:
- Copy the entire CD to the hard drive
- Open up permissions on the Stage dir and all below it (you may not have to do this)
- Drill down to the following directory:
\Stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin
- locate the file "symcjit.dll" and rename it to "symcjit.dll.ori"
- run the setup now
It's a bug in the Oracle Installer on P4 chips.

Not sure if 8i would work but u can install 9i easily. go for the personal
edition and let it intall . will take some time though!

I have using Windows Xp, i have installed 8i recently.. when i have installed that time is working, but after computer restart. oracle is not working..this following message is come.
ORA 01034- Oracle is not found.

I have the same problem posted by sreenu above. After the reboot Oracle does not work. |
