HELP!!! Boot problemsConfiguration:
My computer will not boot at all.... if I soft-boot many, many, many times, I can sometimes get to the bios-screen. If it goes past that screen, the desktop eventually shows up, but then the computer completely freezes - screen becomes covered in squiggly, multi-colored lines. Still have power to both monitor and tower - lights still on on both.

I've tried pulling off all peripherals and new stuff (hardware firewall, new memory card). Makes no difference with them all on or all off.

I've decided it can't be a software issue, since it won't even go as far as the usual bios-screen or desktop.

What are my other options???? Harddrive? Motherboard?

Thanks,
Leslie

Hello, I'm new here.

I've had a problem with my computer for a while now. One night I was playing around on it fine then it just started acting up and kept re-booting on me. It would load back in, but about 5 minutes after it finished booting up to the desktop and everything it would re-boot on me to no end. Then the next morning I attempted to turn on my computer and nothing would happen. My monitor light and power button light turn on with the monitor flashing on and off. My CPU fan and P/S both work, at least the fans spin on them, but I seem to be getting a strange tic sound which I think is coming from my hard drive but I am not 100% positive. The tic can be random, sometimes it is divided between 1-2 seconds and sometimes it is divided between 3-4 seconds. I’ve tried everything I could think of, and I’ve had other people look over it. I’ve built computers from scratch in the past but this one has me stumped. I’ve tried placing a new hard drive in but that never helped, I even got a new stick of ram for it incase that was the problem but it never helped either, nothing changed when I put a new hard drive in or the stick of ram. I use SDDR sticks. I was going to re-format the hard drive but I can’t even seem to get the A: drive to read my boot disk. I tried switching my hard drive from primary to secondary, which by the way when I done that I got further then I did when it was on primary. It would at least show the booting up process on my monitor then it would give me a message saying something along the lines of Non-System Disk Error or something like that, I’d have to check it again. I am also unable to turn the computer off with the power button on the front of the tower. The only way I am able to shut it off is by un-plugging the tower from the wall. Anyways this is all I have for now, if anyone needs more information about my computer let me know and I will see what I can do. It is an IBM Pentium III 955mhz processor, 256 MB RAM, ATX whatever motherboard (I can look at it later if need be), with a 15 GIG Hard Drive.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read over this and help me out.

~Adam~
