No peripherals recognizedConfiguration:
Recently I gave a complete and (then) fully functioning Gateway GP6-350 system (Pentium II, running Windows 98) to a friend. After he reconnected everything and powered up for the first time, the CPU appeared to boot up normally (power and drive lights green as usual), but none of the peripherals - monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers - were recognized.

The monitor shows a blank screen and an amber light when connected to the CPU; a green light and a scrolling “no signal” message when disconnected. The keyboard lights flash green when the CPU is powered up, but it does not respond afterwards. All peripherals are original equipment that shipped with the CPU, and were never problematic in any way before.

I have a system restoration CD and a Windows 98 start-up/boot disk, but since the monitor will not respond, I cannot see if these are actually loading or not when I put them in the drives, and with the keyboard dead, I can’t even try to type a run command at the DOS prompt.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could’ve caused this, and/or if and how the problem can be remedied?
Operating System : Microsoft Windows 98
CPU/Processor : Intel Pentium II 350 MHz
