XP will not detect external CD/RWConfiguration:
I have recently reinstalled xp on my laptop and now when I try to connect my external CD/RW drive (via USB) it will not recognise this hardware. Cannot install it therefore. Operating System : Microsoft xp home
CPU/Processor : Pentium 4

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the other USB ports but to no avail. Other devices work OK on all ports too.

Could be Universal Plug and Play drivers are corrupted. Go to Device Manager/USB Controlers and uninstall all of them. Then reboot. The correct drivers will be installed to allow your USB peripherals to be recognised.
