Cause of motherboard problem?Configuration:
I have a Jetway (P4MFM) motherboard and Intel P4 - 1800 Processor. There is a very serious and probably unusual problem. The PC just stops working when Windows Xp is loading. SOmetimes it shuts after the booting is completed. In this state , either the red LED is OFF or it is perinially ON (i.e. not blinking)

With XP the only time this problem does not occur is when I am playing games. If I somehow boot the PC and start FIFA 2005 the PC runs without any problem. The problem occurs again if I come out of this program.

The Pc is comparitively stable in Windows 98 but the problem is still there. Even as I am typing I dont know when the problem will come and I have to start all over again. I understood from a technician that this problem is a motherboard problem. So now I will have to change it.

What I need to know is:

1) Is the technician right?
2) What could be the possible causes of the problem? - Is it a voltage problem.
My UPS is malfunction but as I understand the SMPS should take care of any spikes.
3) Should I check my Power Supply and anything else before I change the Motherboard?
Operating System : Microsoft Windows 98, Xp
CPU/Processor : Intel Pentium 4 1818 MHz
RAM : Hynix, Samsung Actual:512 MB Max:480 MB
Motherboard : Jetway P4MFM 404 MHz
