Thinkpad Reboot ProblemConfiguration:
I was in a rush and removed my wireless card after clicking on the device disable button, but before the process was complete. Now the machine won\'t reboot. It just beeps once, followed by three more beeps. The beep pattern repeats itseld in reverse then that is it. No screen appears. Is there a way to remedy this, or am I screwed? Operating System : windows 2000

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, you will get a dialog with 6 buttons, try and use the shut down button from there.

An alternate way is to do a hard reboot:-
make sure laptop is not connected by the AC power. from the bottom of the laptop, pull out the battery. the system will turn of.. put the battery back in.. and start the laptop normally.. (make sure you save any unsaved data before you try this.)

Thanks Ghost, I gave both a try, but no luck. Alt-Ctrl Delete still won't show anything on the screen, and the hard reboot doesn't budge it either.

Did you pull out the battery, with AC power turned off, and the system did not go off? Ensure that no external devices/ peripherals are connected to it while you do this.
If the system still remains On, it means it is getting power from somewhere, we need to disconnect all possible power sources.

It shut down just fine after removing the battery and ac power. But when I retored the power I still had a blank screen and the beep pattern.

This seems to be a RAM problem. Either the RAM is not fot properly or it has gone bad.
Open the RAM compartment (read your laptop's manual on how to do it/ how to replace RAM etc, if you dont know)
Pull the RAM out, plug it in again, properly.

Try booting, if you still get an error, try to get RAM from some other machine or friend and place that RAM. if things work, the RAM is faulty and needs replacement.

else, it is a more serious problem and you might not be able to do things yourself and hence will need a technician to do this for you.

Ya know, I was skeptical about the RAM idea, but desperate situations call for desperate measures! I replugged the RAM card, and darned if it didn't reboot like a champ!! Many thanks Ghost!
