| Windows 98, no Desktop, c: promt only | Configuration: |
My neighbor got a free computer that must have had the hard drive wiped clean. Not on start-up, the Win 98 logo appears for less than a second and then the c: prompt aqppears. The directory for the c: drive shows not windows or sub-directories. The dos command shows a win 98 operating system. He doesn\'t has a Win 98 start-up disk, and I don\'t have one. I do have the Win 98 2nd Ed. disk.
What to do?

Re: Windows 98, no Desktop, c: promt only by Anonymous Ghost on September 28th, 2004 06:42:07 AM I have windows 98 2nd edition on my pc- I do not have a disk for it recently I updated my virus scan program as I needed to apply several patches When i tried to run the virus scan I got this program has preformed an illegal operation message and could omly start my computer in safe mode. after several tries I finally deleted the virus program and can now start up by logging in but my screen colors are distrorted on most web sites and system file checker indicates I have several corrupt dll.files. Is there any way to restore these without the Windows 98 cd- It has to be very easy as a computer whiz I am not! Thank you |
