IE 6 Browsing Painfully SlowConfiguration:
Web pages appear to load quickly but cannot be scrolled or clicked on for a long time. I've run spybot, ad ware, unchecked the style sheet box and reinstalled IE 6. Can you help by reading my log?

Hi,
If you haven't run Ad-Aware and SpyBot, run those, while I analyse this log.
I will get back in a few minutes.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by Anonymous Ghost on March 24th, 2004 12:08:17 PM
I am having this same problem. I've run Ad-Aware, Spybot, Hijack This, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm experienced at getting spyware off my machine. The problem was originally tied in with Windows Explorer doing the same freeze for 30 seconds or so, but I fixed that be re-registering some .dlls I found in a list somewhere. I'm running Zone Alarm (free, most recent version), and I can see that the transaction hasn't completed when the web page loads. ZA stays both red and green. I'm running Win98, so when I ctrl-alt-del ZA comes up as not responding.

Last night, I installed IE 6 sp1 over top of the previous version, updated all windows and ie updates, etc. Same thing.

Netscape runs quick, email works, so cable connection is not the problem.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by scorpio on March 25th, 2004 10:34:29 AM
I will recommend un-installing ZoneAlarm and then installing it again.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by Anonymous Ghost on March 26th, 2004 11:08:47 AM
I'm the anonymous ghost of 3/24. That's what I'm thinking, too. I'll give it a shot this weekend and report back. I do know that what's happening is the cpu usage gets maxed out, which, memory says, was a zone alarm problem a couple of years ago.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by scorpio on March 27th, 2004 12:54:52 AM
Agnitum Outpost Firewall has a free version. Its very light weight to system resources and I loved it. Far better than free version of zone alarm.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by Anonymous Ghost on March 28th, 2004 03:33:50 PM
I have this same problem - watching it in task manager, it slowly goes from 19mb of memory to 100mb+, at which point I close it, reopen then try again...and the same thing happens.

As with the others, I've tried spybot and hijack this, as well as making sure nothing extra is starting up at bootup, but to no avail.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by Anonymous Ghost on March 29th, 2004 09:12:48 PM
I've recently come down with the same problem. It is driving me crazy. The only sw I've run is Ad-Aware. If anyone figures this out, please let me know.
Re: IE 6 Browsing Painfully Slow by Anonymous Ghost on April 03rd, 2004 08:38:29 AM
I'm anonymous ghost of 3/24 reporting back. Turns out my Norton A-V Corporate Edition 7 was no longer supported, as of 3/1. I uninstalled it and installed Symantec A-V Corporate Edition 8. That solved the problem. Nice to end support without notifying the users.

Do you have some feedback in the meantime, because I am facing the same problem right now ?
Thanks for your help.
