Re: very slow Internet Explorer by jedwards on June 29th, 2004 09:24:31 AM Same problem developed within the past week. Any help would be appreciated |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on August 17th, 2004 03:36:11 PM I had this exact same problem. Just as a test Uninstall Norton Antivirus and see if your problem goes away. It did for me.. If that's your source of the problem and you're willing to give up Norton Antivirus try AVG from www.grisoft.com.

Re: very slow Internet Explorer by michaelangelis on September 09th, 2004 07:38:05 AM Anonymous Ghost is [right on. I uninstalled Norton System works, which has as a component Anti Virus, and my machine is once again blazing along. I will re-install NSW w/o anti-virus and report back.
I find it odd that an add-onn like anti-virus that is so pervasive would not have a fix or an update to correct this issue.
PS -- I didn't have this problem until I installed IE6 w/ XP SP2. That leads me to believe it is the SP2 stuff, whether direstly or via the inherent IE6 update, that is the issue. |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on September 22nd, 2004 09:40:32 AM yeah im having the same problems. my mate sez to download a new browser, but will the new broswer still have the same problem? cheers |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on September 26th, 2004 07:45:59 AM I have something like a 2-GHz machine with a 1.5-Mhz cable connection, I'm running XP Home and Mandrake Linux 10 in dual boot. I have downloaded NO Windows updates from MS. I have NOT installed SP1. I rely on a hardware firewall to keep out intruders, and use AVG when in Windows. Yet, ever since the release of SP1, the downloading of web pages is slower than with dial-up. The slowdown is obvious in IE6, Firefox, Konqueror, and Mozilla. I suspect SP1 got installed in some servers and so the entire internet is messed up. Gee, thanks, Bill Gates. |
Svchost.exe oscillating frequency of 100 % CPU by Anonymous Ghost on September 30th, 2004 07:36:24 PM Just removed norton sw. Fixed the problem. You think norton would send you an email advising that THEIR software is not interfacing with YOUR operating system.
just a thought. |

But there are somethings I dont like about FF so want to keep IE too.
Surely tho this means it cant just be norton. |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on December 06th, 2004 09:59:41 AM I have a "fast" Dell Laptop.. ha ha!! When I use my computer to select images from My Pictures (using IE as far as I can see) it is despearately slow and any movement of the file bar downwards before it is fully loaded causes the whole thing to zoom to the end picture in the file and then it takes an age (sometimes as much as 5 minutes) to load anything at all recognisable. I also have a similar problem when "inserting" a picture into PPT - the insert picture from file "thing" is dreadfully slow - of course if I use details instead of icons or thumbnails then it is fractionally faster but of course I cannot see what I am inserting .. all very tediuous and frustrating! Is this an image "virus" I say to myself. When this is going on the CPU usage is at 100% for the duration. Is there any way of "getting" more sensible CPU usage.. I am not compuytyer literate .. just annoyed that the fantastic machine is so B**** useless. |

Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on December 08th, 2004 06:37:16 PM I had this problem. I was able to correct by removing the Norton Antivirus toolbar from IE. It loaded when I loaded Systemworks 2005 Prmier. |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on December 08th, 2004 11:43:18 PM all i did was disable the antivirus instant protect or whatever quicklaunch icon and restarted ie and it blazed by
stupid nortons
also a good adspyware remover is "giant" it took of a toolbar that nothing else would. good luck |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on January 05th, 2005 10:37:29 AM Incredible! I spent the last 3 hours with spyware this and that, all it took was to disable realtime virus protection! Now IE is blazing fast. thanks! |
Re: very slow Internet Explorer by Anonymous Ghost on January 08th, 2005 10:01:54 PM I just wanted to thank everyone. IE on my wifes laptop just seemed to die. It worked fine this morning. I've been working on this for about 4 hours. As soon as I disable the Norton AutoProtect, the problem went away. Thanks for the great tech support. :) Have a great one. |
