Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by scorpio on November 07th, 2004 09:37:26 PM To figure out whether it is a symantec problem, disable the email protection for outgoing mails in norton.
then try again.
if sending mail works, the problem was with the update.
if not, tell us here and i will give you the other possible solution. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by melrobin on November 08th, 2004 06:29:10 PM My Symantec icon shows an exclamation mark on it. I get a pop up that says my Symantec Corporate Client is disabled. However, I read that if it is actually disabled, it should have an X on it. I tried unloading service and then reloading, but nothing really changed. I still can't send any emails. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on November 12th, 2004 02:38:42 AM Hi - I have a similar problem.. My system was working fine with OL2000 - but when I upgraded to OL2002 I now have "intermittent" problems sending email through my mail server on the same machine. I can send through other SMTP servers reliably - but not the local one on this machine. Other machines can send reliably through this SMTP server. I have seen something like this before - and I suspect that OL2002 has a problem communicating with a Local SMTP server.
Anyone else have a theory? |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by melrobin on November 14th, 2004 12:52:42 PM Today, I downloaded a 15-day free trial of the 2005 Norton Anti-Virus software. I ran a deep scan and found no viruses. I did all the live updates. Afterwards, I could send emails again. I don't know what was wrong, but that seemed to fix it. Still, I get a popup that says "computer may be at risk. status of virus protection unknown," and there is no little icon in the botom right corner for Symantec. Also, the Windows Security Center icon has an X on it. Not sure what to do about that, but at least I can send emails again. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by scorpio on November 15th, 2004 04:02:27 AM Maybe that update was the problem. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on November 17th, 2004 09:36:41 AM I can receive email using Microsoft Outlook 2002, but cannot send. The DSL tech support pelople tell me it's not their problem but must contact Microsoft. I don't want to use Yahoo to send and receive...it's very cumbersome.
can someone help me figure out what's wrong?
thanks.

Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 01st, 2004 12:51:12 PM I have the solution:
You have to have an email address in the from field. Go to options, uncheck off that you want to use microsoft word to edit emails...create a new message, go to view and uncheck from field. then go back and check to use word as email editor again..and voila! your sbcyahoo nightmare is solved. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 02nd, 2004 11:08:22 AM I really want to thank you for the advice of disabling/uninstalling Norton to cure e-mail problems. I have spent nearly two weeks and involved several family members as well as my isp & my computer maintenance support. No one could help but this forum. Thanks ever so much! |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook by Anonymous Ghost on December 08th, 2004 11:20:11 AM I have 3 computers with different email programs, but all have norton system works and internet security versions 2004. All 3 computers lost connection with email services via (0x800ccc0f) after updating Norton. I did the updates over several days and after each computer update and reboot I lost one more computer to this email problem.
I can find nothing on symantec or microsoft concerning this recent issue. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 08th, 2004 09:20:53 PM I had the same problem. I disabled the ability to scan outgoing email which has given me the ability to send email messages again. Looks like it may have been caused by my prior download of norton antivirus! |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 09th, 2004 10:48:40 AM Did this ever get resolved? I have the exact same problem.
Thanks |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 09th, 2004 10:53:03 AM I disabled email scanning in Symantec Corporate Anti-virus and it made no difference.
Thanks. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 09th, 2004 11:02:45 PM I found a solution to this problem... Turns out my DSL provider (SBC) turned off/blocked "socket 25" in order to reduce the amount of spam being sent through their servers. Call tech support... They can "unblock" socket 25, re-route your ountbound mail through their server (vs.your email provider), or some other way I can't recall. Took 3 minutes to fix. Hope this helps. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 11th, 2004 06:28:47 PM After updrading to XP and Office XP Pro email through Outlook Express was not working. Got it working, not sure how. I started using Outlook (2002, wverything was fine, then Outlook will not work with my internet provider email, it still works with Hotmail account. Outlook Express still works with both. I can access my ISP mail account directly through internet, so problem seems to be with Outlook or something interferring with it. I have tried turning off Norton antivirus, no change.I would appreciate any help. I am running Internet Security 2005, new install after unistalling previous versions of Internet Security and Norton Antivirus. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December by Anonymous Ghost on December 13th, 2004 05:02:06 AM I installed a backup progam for Outlook that saves a copy of my files upon exit. It did not work and gave me an error that another program had part of the file blocked. I closed Outlook and In Windows Task Manager, I discovered that there was still asession of Outlook running. After closing the that session from Task Manager, I was able to send and receive email from both accounts. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 15th, 2004 04:55:38 PM I had similar problem on XP with OL2002. Even tried creating new profiles in OL2002 and also changing SMTP to smtp.sbc.dsl.com
Mozilla thunderbird works just fine with existing setup. Theory says that OL2002 has problem, not the SMTP server. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on December 16th, 2004 09:27:50 AM After many hours of reading about this issue, I apparently fixed it on my Windows XP (SP1) with Outlook 2003 (Office SP1) system.
Following some advice I saw, I unchecked the box that allows me to use Word as my email editor. That worked! I had tried adding something in the From field without success, but I didn't bother disabling Norton AntiVirus because my ISP outgoing mail server worked fine. My only issue was sending through another SMTP server where some sites are hosted.
I hope this helps! |

Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 14th, 2005 02:27:37 PM I have been really frustrated by this situation. I have spent 7 solid hours working on the email last night alone. I got one email to go out and could get messages in in for a while but after the initial dump of incoming mail quit. SBC smtp just doesn't ever work. But it is nice to know that I am not frustrated alone. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 15th, 2005 01:15:06 PM I have encountered similar problems setting up a second email account on my home network. At first, I could receive mail but not send, now it is neither - with no known change. My error message is as follows:
"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Laptop', Server: 'mail.cableone.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"
Can anyone help? |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 23rd, 2005 06:23:24 PM I had the same problem, can't send email and it does't have anything to do with Symantec. My email is hosted from a different provider than my ISP (who is SBC), turns out after several hours of troubleshooting there's a switch on SBC's side that says "Allow email passthrough - something like this) and it works now. Also, unanounced to SBC users, they closed port 25 about three weeks to control SPAM, if your hosting your site somewhere else they don't tell you this. Hope this helps. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 25th, 2005 03:09:43 AM I had the same proglems, too. Last Friday, I send request my ISP(SBC) to turn off "port25 filter." Today I got mail from SBC, and now I can send mail.
To request, I used "Abuse of Service" form in SBC web page.

Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 27th, 2005 09:33:25 AM Thank you so much! I have been having this problem too and contactin SBC re. the Port 25 filters did the trick. SBC should really be contacting their customers when they make changes like this... |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 28th, 2005 01:47:51 PM My ISP is AOL, but I use another email for business hosted by Hostway. I am trying to configure Outlook only with my Hostway account using my but like everyone else, I can't send the email. I went to the page to report the "Abuse of Service" but it is asking for my SBCYahoo account. I don't have an SBCYahoo email account, so now what? I can set outlook up with no problem using my AOL address but that is not what I want to use for business. I called AOL and they said the have nothing to do with the problem. Anybody? |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 29th, 2005 01:21:23 AM I wish I would have read these posts 3 day's ago. I had the Outlook/Outlook Express sending problem with my ISP as SBC DSL. Even though I couldn't send while using DSL, my dialup test was successful. I'm not sure which action fixed the email problem using DSL: 1) Norton Antivirus updates, 2) Windows updates, 3) reseting at SBC (with shutting off modem/computer). |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 29th, 2005 11:58:08 AM I had the same problem sending e-mail. I was using a mailbox from a different provider and after reading the posts here, I found a message on my ISP website that port 25 was blocked to reduce spam. They gave a fix and all it entailed was to change the information on the outgoing mailserver (SMTP) to their server. I did and presto! I can send mail through Outlook 2002! Hope this helps |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 31st, 2005 08:45:18 PM I have MSN and Outlook. I am trying to use a different outgoing server. I can receive emails from them but not send emails. I understand MSN disabled port 25 to reduce spam but I've spent over three days trying to find a solution and all I get is people at MSN from the Phillipenes trying to help me. How can I fix this? Thanks |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on January 31st, 2005 09:02:00 PM i had to deal with this problem today. our email host finally told me the solution. i had to call the 2nd teir support number i had to get the correct outgoing mail address. this solved the problem. i also had just finished fixing a problem accessing the router. many billable hours lost due to this problem. i wondered if it was related. it seems someone accessed my router and changed its IP address. i wonder if this is related? i have a suspicion it is related somehow. The connectivity problem reared its ugly head over night last week. sbc tech support was no help. we had our comp. consultant try to fix the problem to no avail. no one was ever able to tell me how this problem occured. when finally fixed by a sbc tech who visited our office, our internet connections resumed. this is when i discovered the out going mail problem. it was kinda weird that this all happened at the same time. |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on February 01st, 2005 07:00:03 PM Try this.
0x80042109 SMTP server problem
I post fixes to computer problems I have that takes me ages to fix, in the hope that someone else might be able to find the solution and so save themselves the pain. In this case, I couldn't send outgoing email via my SMTP server on port 25 despite the fact that I could receive email fine. It all came down to transparent proxying, but it took a while to find out. If this helps you, please drop a note to let me know, otherwise I feel like I'm writing for the web-bots.
Basically, when I tried to do a send/receive with Outlook, everything went well until it tried to send my outgoing messages, at which point it would hang for a while, and after the pause, I'd get error number 0x80042109, with some problem connecting to my SMTP server. But this would happen only through some connections and not through others.
Microsoft's online help service, which is frankly usually quite good, was completely useless in this case. It has some blurb about MSN messages that doesn't really help at all.
What it turned out to be is that my ISP is using something called "Transparent Proxying", which they didn't bother to tell us they were doing. It's part of a spam-prevention toolkit that prevents anyone who subscribes to this ISP from connecting to any machine's port 25 other than the ISP's own SMTP server. Annoying? Oh yes. Especially since it took me 2 days to work out what the damn problem was.
In my case, my email provider has a workaround. They've set up another port on which the SMTP server will respond, and their authentication system requires that I log into the POP3 server before the SMTP server will acknowledge my existence. This conveniently bypasses the port 25 block my ISP has set up. That's all this problem really was - my ISP was blocking connections to port 25 on any machine other than their own SMTP server.
If you're struggling with something similar, try TELNET to any SMTP server you can find outside of your own ISP's address range (port 25) - if it doesn't work there, but it works on your ISP's SMTP server, then this is your problem - scream at your ISP, and much good may it do you.

Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on July 31st, 2005 09:21:02 AM To those that posted the fixes for this: Much thanks to you all! Though I'm a programmer myself, it's mid range, not pc. sometimes I get tired of trying to fix pc issues on my own, and in this case was just using my webmail access to get around the outgoing server issue. Of course, when I forgot and downloaded everything, then I had to either forward the email back to myself or copy & paste. Again, much thanks to you all, such a simple fix, yet Optimum online CS & 1st level tech is apperently unaware of simple fixes to common issues. Have a great one! - Dave |

Can't Respond to Email on Microsoft Outlook 2002 by cherber on September 04th, 2005 12:22:47 PM I use Outlook for E-Mail. All of a sudden I could not dbl click on a messge in order to respond. I refused to pay Int Exp $35. My husband wen through everything - guessing! and he solved it. Hope this helps you:
1. TOOLS.
2. INTERNET OPTIONS.
3. ADVANCED
4. Scroll down to SECURITY.
We had two things checked off: USE SSL 2.0 and USE SSL 3.0.
He decided to check USE TLS 1.0. having no idea what the meant (He's a theatre professor and computers are a foreign language to the both of us!)
5. HIT "APPLY"
and that solved my problem. Good luck. I know how frustrating this is. CB |
Re: Can't Send Email from Microsoft Outlook 2002 by Anonymous Ghost on September 14th, 2005 12:05:14 AM I had the same problem and it was definetly the antivirus, but it was because for some reason it wasn't on and since I guess Outlook asks Norton for the ports and it scans the mail before it makes it to my Inbox that is why,... everything is working perfectly now. |
