Cannot send e-mail from Outlook 2000Configuration:
I cannot send any e-mails from Outlook, even though I can receive e-mail just fine. Whenever I try to send a message I get the following error: "A TCP/IP error occurred while trying to send data to the server. (Account: 'Mail', SMTP server: outgoing.verizon.net', error Number 0x800CCC13.)"

Additional Comments:
This all worked until a few days ago. I haven't changed anything on my computer (at least intentionally) and I don't think I have a virus. (I ran a full system scan with Norton Antivirus. The virus definitions are up to date as of yesterday.)

I can't send e-mails with Outlook 2003> I also have Verizon DSL. I have tried their customer support and is not of any help. This happened to me before and the only way I was able to fix it was installing again Office....it sucks.

I can't send or receive. It can't seem to connect to the outgoing.verizon.net servier, and it can't connect to the incoming.verizon.net server. However, I can PING them. Any ideas?

Try sending a short message. See if that works. By short, I mean three or four words only. I’ll bet verizon.net has you limited to 110 characters (including subject header and carriage returns).
Don’t know why or how to fix this limitation but I’m chipping away at the problem.

Cannot send e-mail from Outlook 2000 by Anonymous Ghost on September 19th, 2004 10:34:22 AM
I have W2K professional, Outlook 2000 on a small network.
I connect to ISP (Bell Sympatico) via DSL modem, behind that I have Linksys 4 port router, on the network I have a P2 (also with W2K, Office 2000, ) and an AMD 2500.

I have been sending and receiving emails from the P2 and AMD without problem. About 2 weeks ago it started, the AMD can not send, although it can receive. The P2 can send /receive without problem.

I have reinstalled O2K on the AMD, applied all Office updates. I have created new accounts.

I have removed router from network and connected AMD directly to DSL modem and I can send and receive. I have shut off the DSL modem and

I put the router back in to create network, and can not send from AMD. I can telnet from AMD and P2 to the pop3 server and the smtp server fine.

I have changed the ports I plug the cables for the P2 and AMD into on the router ; I have even tried another NIC on the AMD. Nothing changes - still can not send on the AMD.

Do you have any suggestions.
Cannot send e-mails bigger than 1350 bytes from OE 6.1 by Anonymous Ghost on October 02nd, 2004 10:41:08 AM
After I bought SURECOM 4904SX router to create a network consisting
of one PC with Win98 SE & Outlook Express 6 and two notebooks with XP &
Outlook Express.

Having connected the hardware and also followed through the instructions,
the local net was successfully established. However, after the installation
I surprisingly have started to live a serious problem; I cannot send mails
bigger than 1350 bytes through any of the computer on the net. I have
checked all possible reasons such as security checks, our firewall (I even
disabled our Norton firewall) etc. but no success. The technical service that
I bought the router in Turkey could not help me because they say this is
the first time they are facing such a problem.

I will be grateful if anyone can help me on this matter.

Any issues you get due to not being able to send is due to SMTP authentication.

With Verizon you have to Authenticate with the outgoing server. At times they dont enforce this at times they do. So, is always best to have the setting enters. In outlook you need to make sure that "My outgoing mail server requires authentication" is checked. Then enter your Verizon User ID. This is the weird looking one like res48, vze94, biz34, every e-mail address has a VZ User ID. If you don't know call their support department.

You need to use the Log on using and enter the VZ User ID and password.

If you have a router you will need to make sure the MTU settings are enabled to 1492. The MTU settings veries by router vendors so call them. Some routers have the MTU hard coded into the router if that is the case for your get a new router.

I had the same problem with a motorola surfboard modem for broadband. I am using win98 se with a cable modem. All I did was unplug the modem for a few minutes and hit the reset button and presto...all fixed.
I also turned the wire from the PC to the modem around.

Good luck

I also had this issue with cable modem once a modem was in place. The issue was that the SMTP server I was given was shawmail. With the router in place the computer could not resolve the name shawmail. This is how you can fix it.
Remove the router from the equation so that one computer is hooked directly tot he modem. Now go to Start > Run and type in CMD (Windows XP) or command (Windows 98/ME). Hit OK. Now type "ping " and hit enter. It should come back with something like this...
C:\Documents and Settings\some computer>ping shawmail

Pinging shawmail.cg.shawcable.net [24.71.223.43] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 24.71.223.43: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=122
Reply from 24.71.223.43: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=122
Reply from 24.71.223.43: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=122
Reply from 24.71.223.43: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=122

Ping statistics for 24.71.223.43:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 27ms, Maximum = 34ms, Average = 30ms

Now go into your mail settings in Outlook and use the IP address instead of the name shawmail or whatever you have. This worked for me.
Re: Cannot send e-mail from Outlook 2000 by Anonymous Ghost on January 19th, 2005 11:18:17 PM
Sorry my message got mixed up because of some characters I used. That should read: ping shawmail. You need to use the IP of the email server rather than the host name, which is shawmail in my case.
