Re Problem installing MSOFFICE 97 by mrackin on July 07th, 2002 08:27:45 PM
I have a similar problem; I had to reformat my HD and reinstall OS and all apps. Office 97 installs just fine EXCEPT I can't apply the SR2 patches. I'm pretty sure it's the same issue, since when I open any of the apps (I haven't tried Access since I don't use it yet) and look for the Product ID, it isn't there. I've tried reinstalling multiple times, even with two different copies of Office 97 (in case one DC was damaged). Same thing every time! I had installed this on this same computer at least twice before, with no problem. I suspect that Microsoft put something in the most recent updates to W98SE (which I did install) that is intended to force us obstinate users of "obsolete software" to pony up for an upgrade. Frankly, I'd sooner switch to Linux (which I dislike because of its cryptic Unix underpinnings, since I don't speak crypto-English!) If anybody has a workaround, I'd like to know it too.

MS Office 97 on Windows XP by Anonymous Ghost on March 13th, 2003 10:18:30 AM
Yes I prefer it myself as well the only minor problem I had was a message when opening a previously stored word document was a message saying something like "this document is being used by another user". To cure this install Office 97 again and no further problems in other words install office 97 twice it overwrites the previous installation no problem.

Access 97 under XP Pro by gigs on April 23rd, 2003 11:07:42 PM
To work around the licensing error, go to C:winntfonts and find the file "hatten.tff". Drag or cut and paste this file into another folder. You should be able to reinstall Access 97 at this point. After the install is complete, move "hatten.tff" back into the C:winntfonts folder. Alternatively, you can search this error message on Microsoft's website.

Missing License Office 97 when opening Access by Anonymous Ghost on May 29th, 2003 05:22:38 AM
This can occur when Office 2000 is removed and Office 97 is installed.

Find the font hatten.ttf c:windowsfonts and rename it to hatten.old. Now re-install Office 97 and the problem will be resolved.

I recently had to reload my operating system (Windows XP Home) because of a worn. When I reinstalled MS Office 97 Professional, the installation seemed to go fine - the program even said the installation was successful, however, when I click on the Word icon, I get a message that says the programs has to be installed in order for it to work - and to initiate Setup in the location I had stored the installation. I have tried this 5 or 6 times and get the same results. I used the same disks to install it originally in the computer and it worked great for two years before I reloaded Windows XP! Is there anyone out there who can help me fix this? Thanks!

Re: Problem installing MSOFFICE 97 by Anonymous Ghost on March 08th, 2004 04:31:54 PM
If you want to install your MSO 97 and have lost your 11 # key code ( which is in 2 groups of numbers the first group is of 4 and the second is of 7 numbers)just use any combination of numbers in each group that totals a number that is divisible by 7 . Get it, i.e., 5252,(=14) and 1483122 (=21). Any numerical como divisible by 7. Always works.

I am in dire straights! A virus ate mu windows operating system and everything with it. I have successfully reloaded windows but I have misplaced the numbers needed to load msword. Is there a way to get around this? I have purchased msoffice/publisher and when I try to use word there the cpu does the same thing again. I puts up a box for me to register this program and once again asks for thos 5 or 6 series of numbers. Can you help?

Re: Problem installing MSOFFICE 97 by Anonymous Ghost on January 20th, 2005 06:02:59 AM
can't start word97 - the computer hangs. This is when I'm starting it from desktop shortcut, winword.exe and start menu.
But if i double click on a .doc file everything is fine.
Reinstalled whole office and also in custom created directory - same.
I hate reinstalling windows.
Any other ideas
