I am donating my computer to a charity. I want to load a new Win98 copy so that my name does not appear in the files or on the start up menu. Can I download a free copy?
Re: windows98 startup disk - Help by Anonymous Ghost on September 07th, 2004 01:57:45 PM
My current problem is that Windows 98 will not load/start at all during a normal boot (I believe what caused this is that a crucial component of Internet Explorer or some other program got accidentally deleted). I created a Startup disk when I installed Windows 98. I'm not familiar with all that the startup disk is intended to do, although I think one of the concepts is to be able to start Windows 98 by booting from the Startup disk when Windows 98 will not start properly. When I boot from the Startup disk, It gives the option to boot with or without CD Rom support, and either option brings me to a DOS prompt. What am I supposed to type here? Is getting Window 98 to load one of the Startup disks functions? I'm completely ignorant here, as you can tell -please help! My idea was to be able to recover the deleted program under Add/Delete programs, or maybe try to reinstall Internet Explorer.

Note: I have many files on the computer that I need that were not backed up, so I want to avoid having to reinstall Windows 98.
