BOOT SECTOR VIRUSConfiguration:
i am trying to install WIM98SE,i formatted the drive,put floppy in to boot up,put cd in,came up to installing windows,then a black box with VIRUS,and froze,is there any way of getting it out,or would a new hard drive do,i am a begginer at all this... Operating System : Windows 98SE
RAM : Fujitsu Actual:128 MB

You should be able to remove the boot sector virus by downloading any good anti-virus product.
Connecting the hard-drive on the friends machine and running the anti-virus.

Using a new hard disk should work fine, but why bother when you can remove the virus and use the same hard drive :)

my hard drive is off a laptop,which has the virus,can i connect it to a desktop pc(if so how do i do it???)to run an antivirus programm??

well for using/connecting Laptop hard drive to a desktop you will need a laptop hard drive to desktop adaptor.

have received my adapter,virus gone,re-installed win98se...perfect...except i now only have 2 or 16 colours...can anyone tell me how to get my colours back
