svchost.exe problemsConfiguration:
I have a computer that seems to be having some major problems - it started when I cleaned up add/remove programs by getting rid of over 50% of the junk programs on there. The next day, the computer would not connect to the internet, and about two days later, when the computer starts up, it brings up the Windows XP desktop and then freezes. Clicking on anything results in no effect. Only task manager can be brought up. In task manager, I tried ending processes to see if I could get the computer to unlock. When I end svchost.exe, the computer unlocks, but then a message pops up, saying "Remote procedure call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly. Shutdown initiated by NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM." Then I have 1 minute before the system shuts itself off. The next time I start up the computer, there are two svchost.exe processes running, the next time there are 3. At this point I stopped toying with it. What should I do about this problem? Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP

I have the same type of problem. But there is not Blaster running in the task manager. I close the the first svchost service and the shutdown message appears. From run command typing shutdown /a stops the shutdown. However running live up date, msconfig, regedit you can see the problem is still there. Not getting far with this and have 4 XP machines with the same problem. Has to be Virus? If so any solution? or is this a new one.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on January 25th, 2004 07:26:53 PM
do NOT exit svchost.exe, it controls all network and logon processes within the computer. ending it will log you off and shut you down.

Ending a process from the task manager classifies that the process was exited by SYSTEM and not USER.

i sometimes have a problem where when i first log on to windows (XP) i get huge lag and i can hear my hard drive whirling away like crazy, then soon after, my system freezes and no buttons or mouse clicks will do anything, and i have to reset. if i manage to get up task manager before it crashes i see that there are at least 4 svchost.exe s loaded and they are using a lot of CPU and memory. i have a total of over 25 items on my processes list - is it normal to have this many? could this be causing the slow down? also im pretty sure i havent got the msblaster worm as i have sorted that before. does anyone know what this problem is, is it caused by szchost.exe? any help would be appreciated. thanks. :)
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on February 10th, 2004 09:13:24 PM
I am by no means an expert but have had a problem with a svchost.exe memory drain also. Without going into great detail about how I got there, I learned that the problem service was the SSDP Discovery Service. This is the service that allows plug and play detection. You can check to see if this is your problem by:

Click Run
Type services.msc
Double click on SSDP Discovery service
Click the log on tab
Click disable
Click apply

Now check your processes to see if that pesky svchost.exe has stopped leaking.

I hope this helps

Dude, whoever discovered the origin of this problem is a genius. But, now i can't get my mouse to work! I own a Intellimouse from Microsoft, and there are no drivers for this device, because it works as PlugNPlay. I surfed the net and Microsoft's site and found no drivers for PS2 mouses on XP. The worst part is, that i reactivated the service and still the system won't detect the mouse. Can anyone help me?
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 04th, 2004 08:58:31 AM
That services.msc thing didn't help. I can't open or even re-install my Anti-Virus program (I can't start RegEdit either), but I know that I don't have the msblaster, mydoom, doomjuice nor any kind of viruses (I did a check through cmd)
When I opened up processes I noticed that svchost.exe is eating up 80% of my CPU! I used to get those 'System Shutdown' messages every time I connected to the Internet, but they stopped coming by themselves. Do you know how to get rid of the problem? I REALLY wouldn't want to re-install Windows.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 08th, 2004 09:51:23 PM
I have been having similar problems to most of the above on my XP Pro box. As soon as it starts up svchost instances all alternate usage of 100% cpu with various combinations. I did some checking around and tried all that has been posted in this link and nothing worked. When I went to go take a look in my registry, it closed itself after a few seconds. This led my to the brilliant conclusion of a virus. Problem is, I just reformatted to XP and I hardly browse the internet, let alone insecure sites. I have also had problems with the same computer when it was on Windows 2000 also, but I'm not certain if it was subject to insecure sites during that time. If it was I think the certain problem might pertain to the aquiration of my IP address and using it again once the computer is connected to the internet. I'm not sure if any of this is what is actually happening, but it seems to be that way. I'll continue to work on it, but any help would be appretiated. Thank you.

Hey,
I had a smiliar problem. I noticed that my svchost was pinning my computer. I attempted to stop/start the service but the options were grayed out. I then proceeded to diable the service. Now I can't don anything with my laptop. The worst part is, I can't re-enable the service. When I go to services and right click on the service properties is an option, but I click on it, nothing happens. I want to get all of my stuff off my computer and reimage, but it seems this service is tied into everything and I can't copy and paste my files off the laptop. HELP!!!!! How can I re-enable the service. HELP PLEASE!!!!!
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 21st, 2004 05:22:10 AM
Hi, I have read all the post on this subject and I have to say that I have all the problems above! Basically I have 4 svchost.exe continustly running on my PC and taking 80% of the computer ressources, if I end one of them : Remote procedure call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly. Shutdown initiated by NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM." Then I have 1 minute before the system shuts itself off. Also everytime I open an application like reg eddit it closes on its own without warning.
So I concluded it was blaster. The thing is I used all blaster removal tools for trend, symantec... and nothing. I also tried installing all windows security patches but since I have XP SP2 it tells me I don't need to install the sercice packs. Finally I have to mention that I'm using PC cilin Firewall and maximum security!!! This is a real headhach does anybody out there have a clue if there is a solution? Or should I format it all !!! PLeasseeee heeeeeeeeeelpp

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 24th, 2004 01:29:51 PM
Hey, people. I've been having the same problem for about a week now (instance of svchost.exe using up all my spare CPU, no crashes though). I'd tried everything posted on this subject; nothing worked.
I then reinstalled WinXP Pro SP1 (without formatting); still there.
Then I took the rather extreme step of removing both my hard drives and installed WinXP Pro SP1 on a brand new, never-used drive.
STILL F*!?ING THERE.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 25th, 2004 09:12:02 AM
I think maybe it could be the processor is overheating; I suspect this being the case. I have the same problem: svchost sometimes takes up 100% of the CPU usage, and often in about 10-15 minutes after rebooting the RPC system shutdown message appears (I use the shutdown /a, but it's a temporary sollution as most things in windows XP stop working)
Re: svchost.exe problems by scorpio on March 25th, 2004 10:37:40 AM
i dont think processor overheating will cause this. should be something else.
post more details about your system, infact better will be to post a new problem.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 25th, 2004 03:26:13 PM
got the same problems! regedit closes itself after about 5 seconds.

i also cannot install ANY windows updates (to close the security vulnerabilities). after downloading the updates, i try to run them but they close themselves before they complete!

also, i have run fixblast, stinger, have latest version of trend anti-virus, etc. they all claim to either remove all viruses (nachi, blaster, etc) or don't find any. but i suspect the virus is never being fully removed.

this is frustrating.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 26th, 2004 06:07:23 AM
I had a blaster worm on mine which has caused svchost problems. My anti-virus (a Trend one) found the file concerned - mslaugh.exe and quarantined it. I then deleted it.
However, I then checked task manager, and the mslaugh.exe process was still running, so I stopped it.
I then also searched the registry for laugh.exe, and found it was set to start up again each boot up - so I deleted the registry key for it too.

Not sure if this will help your memory leak problems, as I still have problems with svchost crashing, but I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q319161
which I will try next.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 28th, 2004 08:07:02 AM
I have repeated problems with some external (via the Internet) source trying to access svchost.exe for some reason. I keep getting access requests daily, at seemingly random times and intervals, from different ports and IP addresses (which my firewall is warning my about, luckily). Is someone/thing trying to hack my system somehow?
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on March 29th, 2004 07:15:19 PM
Listen people. Svchost.exe is NORMAL. if it takes up a bunch of resources, that means another program is messing up, not svchost.exe

I think we've clarified the solution to this problem already.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 03rd, 2004 10:53:08 AM
normally there should only be 3 instances of svchost.exe running on XP. I have the same where 4 instances are running and as i try to close 1 i automatically get the rpc msg. usually svchost.exe carry adware, but this is definitely a virus. i have no idea what it is nor how to remove it but it is coming from svchost.exe, nothing else
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 07th, 2004 02:03:40 PM
I've read all these messages above carrefully as I have the same problem with svchost. Even after I reformatted the harddrive, because I also encountered the Remote procedure call (RPC.)
Via Start, Run and then type services.msc a popup appears with services.
Choose SSDP-Discovery Service, richtclick and properties.Choose the third tab (in Dutch it is called Systeemherstel) and choose no action in the three items.
This will stop rebooting the system all of the time!!!
Now I still have the problem that something is eating all CPU-capacity.
My theory is that this "thing"came in right after I reformatted, so even before I could install anti virus Panda. Through Panda I've also seen that about every 5 minutes an access requests from different ports and IP addresses attacks my pc.
My best guess now is that I am going to pull the internet cable out and re-install everything.
I'll let you know what happened.
I have had the Blaster virus on my PC and my guess is that once this gets hold of an IP-adress that was unprotected it keeps trying to get in.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 08th, 2004 03:00:26 PM
I too feel all your pains. I have two clients with this problem. One is running XP Pro and the other is running 2K Pro SP4. The only thing I am seeing differently is on the 2k Pro machine, it will not open Symantec. I did a clean format and install of OS, installed Norton 04 first and then did updates. Everything worked for about 2 days and the svchost.exe starting hogging processor AGAIN! The XP machine has been running without problems for 2 years and has always had fresh virus definitions installed. This is really becoming frustrating to a technician!! I need to fix this ASAP as my clients aren't happy about it...
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 09th, 2004 06:56:16 AM
I too have all the problems with svchost running 4 times at once. Does anyone know of any anti-virus software that will get rid of it? I've tried the latest stinger and Computer Associates AV software and they dont detect it! help.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 11th, 2004 11:18:33 AM
Reading this I am glad I do not suffer from this. I found the szchost.exe on a Mellinium PC which is causing shut down problems. FYI if you are going through all the work to reinstall, please use debug. This tool deletes partitions and is truly helpful in deleting viruses. I do it routinely with every new (re)install. Dell has an easy to follow script set of instructions. http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?dn=1011054
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 13th, 2004 02:16:38 AM
4 messages ago I promised to get beack as soon as I had re-formatted my computer.
Before installing XP again, I took the internetcable out.
I had put a 30-day trial version of Panda on a disc.
So, I re-installed XP, put up the firewall and put Panda on it.
Immediattely when I put the internetcable in its socket I was prompted by Panda Antivirus that I was being "attacked" by some unknown IP-adres. I denied access and XP is running great now for three days. (CPU 0-3% when no applications are running.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 21st, 2004 01:37:17 AM
Have the similar simptoms: svchost takes all available CPU, regedit and MS patches close themselves in few seconds after being started. Btw if I rename REGEDIT.exe to, say, RE.exe then it runs ok. So I suspect something is tuned to close these processes. Fixblast from Symantec found nothing. Any ideas on what can it be?
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 21st, 2004 05:49:50 PM
this is probalby the Gaobot Virus. Go to sarc.com and search for Gaobot.gen There are many variations of this virus, so just take a look at the gen version, it will take care of what you need. Also, make sure the Administrator account is NOT blank.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 21st, 2004 08:03:46 PM
just to let you know in case anyone hadn't noticed theres another discusion on this site about svchost.exe VIRUS! its not actually called svchost.exe, but scvhost.exe (notice sCVhost not sVChost). if you think your pc may be being attacted from the outside over the net you should definately check it out.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 22nd, 2004 08:57:34 PM
I have been though it and fix the problem, at least on
my computer. Below is the step I did, and solved my problem.
1)Format your HD or computer
2)Re-install Windows 2000 or Windows XP
3)Install Antivirus software
4)Go online and download new patches from microsoft
windows update website(DO NOT go to other website,
update only) Must download KB823980 and 833330
5)Update virus definition only (no other website)
6)offline
7)install new patches
8)restart your computer
9)scan your computer
Good Luck everybody!!
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on April 23rd, 2004 12:35:08 AM
I've got tha same problem. I tried to solve it for 2 days. The cause is MSBlast.exe virus. There is only one PC that's infected from Virus. Those PC sends message to the hole of Windows XP for making the target PC hang. You have to update the lasted Windows Security Update by useing Tools -> Windows Update in IE Menu.
It's work fine.

I have a little twist. Same problem with one iteration of SVCHOST.EXE hogging 98+ per cent of my resources. In the AM, first boot, my machine works great. Any subsequent reboot, and the problem shows again. Norton says the machine is clean and I'm up-to-date on my XP patches.

I have a problem in that a svchost.exe takes up 100% of my resources whenever I try to download patches or anything from MSoft. The main problem is DirectX. I try to upgrade from 8.1 to 9.0b, and whenever I try to upgrade from the MS Windows Update website, the download is fine, but once the computer starts to install it, svchost.exe just eats up 100% of resources and DirectX9.0b won't install, though I let it try for 2+ hours. The red light on the front of my computer stays flashing the entire time. I also cannot install other updates/driver updates from MS. I also cannot install DirectX from any game software disks that contain the program - the DirectX load program crashes whenever I try that. Any suggestions? I can load programs and software from CDs fine, download items, but DirectX and other items from Windows Update just starts a svchost.exe file to eat up 100% of resources, and that's the end of that. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I am not sure if I have a problem with my svchost.exe but my system keeps on giving an error message saying the system will shut down and reboot in a minute.
Can anybody help me to get rid of this message and stop my system from rebooting every 5 minutes because its just too frustrating

my solution by jack_scan on May 11th, 2004 10:19:11 PM
Hi,

I had the same problem on several occasions. Basically I solve my svchost.exe problem like this:

I went to services
- started RPC
- started RPC (locator)

---> then I shutdown my firewall (zonealarm) and my svchost stopped using all cpu-ressources.

Explanation: During start up I noticed that the 'true vector monitor'(used by zonealarm) took a longer time to load sometimes. Everytime this happened my svchost started to claim all cpu-resources. My theory is that there's an adware program that tries to disable or pass trough the firewall and since almost every software firewall also depends on svchost it makes the firewall claim usage of svchost and thereby claim all cpu-resource. It could even be that the adware uses the rpc to collect or send data. By disabling your firewall completely it frees the svchost but probably at the cost of adware running on your computer and sending data.

I'm trying to get all adware off my computer allthough there's almost none on it I can't get rid of all.

I am getting nowhere with this , hhaha what a pain, i have a computer with the problem, its got 4 svchost.eve running and 1 of them is sucking up 97-99% of my CPU, there has to be away around this, do we have to call gates himself?
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on May 25th, 2004 07:35:44 PM
okay my virus scanner kept telling me i have a virus ( Win32:Gaobot-267 [Wrm]) no i cant find that exact one but i guess its a varient of gaobot.

Now when it said i had a virus, it would keep regenerating a file called test 1 and systemtray.exe into my C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents folder. Id delete the files but they would keep regenerating.

I also noticed i had 4 svchost.exe running but none of them ate up that much usage and if i would select the right one, i would be able to terminate it without the shutdown happenin, there for i assume this is a trojan connection.

i did this Click Run
Type services.msc
Double click on SSDP Discovery service
Click the log on tab
Click disable
Click apply

and now the virus does not regenerate anymore but there is still 4 svchost.exe
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on May 25th, 2004 07:41:51 PM
i just restarted my computer and the virus is rengerating again and i went to services.msc
and noticed that the tab is set back 2 enable so i think someone sends a virus or im being attacked

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on June 09th, 2004 04:21:35 PM
I've looked into this and there should be around 4 SVCHOSTS on your computer normally. To look at the services for each of these hosts:
Start/Run/cmd then type Tasklist/SVC
this show the tasks assigned for each svchoste.exe instance
If your SVChoste is burning your CPU it could be because some program (ie, Zonealarm or spyware) is trying to access the internet and trying to get through your firewall. Remove these spyware programs with adaware

Hi all...i'm havin the same problems as above. the only thing i'm thinkin of doin is to reformat the whole drive and reinstall windows. but my problem is, after shutin down svchost i can't cut and paste or click and drag any of my folers to back up on another compuster. This is a problem for me since i have all my work saved on my drive. So i'm lookin for a way to back up my stuff so i don't lose all of it when i reformat. Any help would be awsome :)

Thanks
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on June 23rd, 2004 09:57:18 AM
ok, I also have the same problem, but I've been able to end the processes without the computer shutting down. My computer runs 5 svchost.exe programs and I can end 3 of them without my computer shutting down, but I lose the ability to listen to music or any sound unless the program was opened before.
Anyway, a place I found that has removal instructions for the programs looks like it would help, but I'm not sure the source is reliable http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/windir.svchost/index.phtml
see if that helps any in the explaination as to why the svchost is killing our comps...

Re: svchost.exe problems by scubagolf on August 06th, 2004 05:34:19 PM
I started researching this after many instances of my computer running EXTREMELY slow. I have Four instances of svchost.exe running in Task Manager. Three can be shut down without the auto-shutdown coming, but they immediately restart themselves. I did a search and found three instances of the actual file svchost.exe on my computer. Two are there because I dual boot XP Pro to be able to C__Y DVDs and the software doesn't like all of my extras that I like to use. The creation date for these two is the same of course. It's the one that was on the XP CD. The third has no company info (such as MS under the version tab of properties on the other two). The creation date of this file was on 06/24/04, the same date that my less than a year old CPU burned up! That's when my problems first started. I am unable to delete this file as "Access Denied. Make sure the disk is not full, etc." When I attempt to End Process" in Task Manager, it magically restarts itself. This computer has NEVER been without current up-to-date virus definitions/scans and Windows Updates. Virus Scans are run weekly along with Ad-Aware and Spybot. The ZoneAlarm Firewall is updated immediately with each update. I KNOW that there will be multiple instances of svchost.exe running, but I've seemingly got an extra. I also know that with all of the programmers BS filenames, I'll never know what each svchost.exe is really running by searching the tasklist. My computer locks up multiple times each day, with virtually NO cpu usage at all. It will unlock itself after 45 seconds to 2 minutes. I'll try some of the suggestions mentioned earlier in this forum. By the way folks, REGISTER so people can direct messages toward you and others can see what worked for which previous post. Everyone's Anonymous Ghost.

Re: svchost.exe problems by scubagolf on August 09th, 2004 05:08:58 PM
I was finally able to delete the svchost.exe that was not from MS. First I performed the TaskList under CMD. I verified EACH instance of svchost.exe. I had a total of Six running. The process of the very last one was n/a. I kept the CMD open and opened SureDelete. I opened Task Manager and clicked on the Processes tab. I selected the first svchost.exe and clicked on End Process. I went back to TaskList on CMD. The n/a entry was gone. I located and noted where each instance of svchost.exe was in the Task Manager. I then opened to the location of the non-MS occurence I found in search. Mine was in C:\Windows. I dragged it into SureDelete. I then returned to TaskManager to End Process of the suspect svchost.exe. I then proceeded with SureDelete. I was successfull in deleting the suspect svchost.exe this time.
This may be of help to some of you.
I also had problems with Cut and Paste from the Internet. It would take from 30 to 60 seconds for the paste to complete. This did not disappear from the above action. However, I was able to cut the time in half by re-enabling the Office Plug-in in Norton Internet Security. Located under Options>Norton Internet Security>Miscellaneous in Norton Systemworks. Hope this also helps a little.

So I've got the same problem with all of you. The first, my computer injected MSBlast worm and it restarted itself after that I tried to kill this worm by FixBlast.exe and sysclean but it's not work. Then I installed SP2 and after I restart my computer it has an error message box "svchost.exe Application Error ...". Oh God it began worth, the cpu's resource alway be 2-3% and up to 100% and down to 2-3% again. I don't know what's happen. Is it virus or SP2 that make my computer like this.
Pls help me....
so sorry if my words are confuse cause I'm Thai people.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on August 22nd, 2004 05:44:31 PM
Ummm heres something you can all try. Since svchost is causing the problem, or so you think then it is possible that it is disabling your antivirus from detecting it if it is in fact a virus. My suggestion is to reboot the system, press F8, load Windows without networking, then do a full antivirus scan with norton or whatever you have in safe mode. MAKE SURE YOU SAFE MODE IN WITHOUT NETWORKING. See if you pick anything up that way.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on August 24th, 2004 09:20:55 AM
Do the following task.

Open "c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" file in Notepad and see what contents are there in, delete all contents except 127.0.0.1 localhost and make that file read only.
Those who are running SQL server they need either to delete "sqlserver" file from C:\programs\Microsoft Sql Server\MSSQL\BINN and from C:\programs\Microsoft Sql Server\MSSQL\BINN\exe also.
Copy the same file from other SQL server or reinstall the sql server again.

You will see the result.

Thanks,

HOW CAN YOU KNOW YOUR COMPUTER IS INJECTED BY VIRUS?
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on November 18th, 2004 07:17:00 AM
My pc (amd64 running xp, bridged ASUS WLAN card ) has been showing similar problems over the last week. I have a firewall, virus protection and adaware installed and updated. An instance of svchost was hogging cpu resources and after about 3 hours it would cause the system to hang with a low on VM message.
Stopping the DNS service (Start-Control Panel-Admin Tools-Service DNS service stop) stopped the memory hog
Examination of the event log showed problems with IPNATHLP (DNS Resolution)
Correcting an NIC badly configured by xp corrected this.
While this may not be the cause on your system it is worth stopping dns and dhcp services to eliminate this type of problem.

Good luck

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on November 22nd, 2004 10:22:53 AM
First of all, if your computer generates an error and tells you it will be shut down in 60 seconds...that is the sasser virus. Download it anywhere, it is free, and get the sasser virus patch from microsoft which is included in SP2. Second, there is a virus going around called Backdoor.Agent.B which is going artound tying up system resrouces, and replicating itself, it also affects your internet browser and gets activated whenever you do anything windows related. You can download it at the symantec site.

scvhost NOT svchost problem by Anonymous Ghost on January 10th, 2005 07:07:00 PM
This program has infected all computers in the company network within a matter of minutes. Only W2k computers have been affected. No XP/NT or 98 infections. SPs should fix but all exe's terminate a few seconds after starting. Safe mode does not work on this one. Registry keys are in \run\winmgt.exe scvhost.exe and \run services\scvhost.exe Also - random files names are generated on C drive if scvhost fails to run. This is a nasty one and spreads over networked computers quickly. I am still not sure what this is. Symantec = no results or info on this one

Ive got what looks like the blaster32 worm. My Task manager shows 6 svchosts running. Obviosly im connected to the internet - every time i turn the pc on it shows the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM shutdown box counting down from 60 seconds. I just put the system clock back by an hour or so then it gives u a bit of time to try and find a fix. I have now been looking for 30 minutes and i still havent found one lol. Hope this helps some people with issues downloading from the internet because there pc shuts down to quick.
I have ran the blaster32.exe from symantec website to no avail. it must be some kind of other virus i have!!!

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on February 07th, 2005 07:07:22 PM
With mine, I cannot access any Explorer Applications, so I cannot access my hard drives. I'm having to use Firefox to even browse the internet. Any time I try to open an Explorer browser, the screen goes blank with just my wallpaper visible and then goes back to where it was before I tried to open the browser. When I noticed something was fishy, I immediately brought my firewall up, and now this svchost.exe and alg.exe program keeps wanting to access the internet. I'm using XP and have all of the service packs
my computer keeps rebooting and then shutting itself back off by Anonymous Ghost on March 14th, 2005 12:19:11 PM
It won't allow me to do anything. Boots up, shows desktop, and then shuts back off, and repeats process all over again.
Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on September 02nd, 2005 12:36:22 AM
svchost its not dangerous and i have a pentium 2 350 mhz and 256 meg of ram and my cpu its notat 100% sorry guys the scvhost its not a virus so if you want to reduce it put a antivirus like panda and download xoftspy , adware registry repair , registry mechanic ,pc onpoint ,,system mechanic and much more can help.So you can disable some many thing on msconfig and the services.msc for reduce cpu and ram,if you dont know what disabled...download the blackviper so take care of what you do its at your own risk you can break your pc so i hope what ive said its helping you all thx and welcome

hello, everyone.I have the so called worm , as w speak.I too am using windowsxp sp1. I got this worm, virus backdoor -whateve you want to call it. It's nasty and I can't remember how to get rid of it now. It's all associated with the svchost and winlogon.
I know how to stop the system shutdown box though you have to be quick- You go to start/run/ then type
(SHUTDOWN /A ) * note the space between the the word & the forward slash. This will stop it . As for getting rid of the whatever or how I come to get it again, is beyond me.I ran a scan and ran ad-aware and nothing finds it. I too cannot use any explorer applications and cannot logon as the administrator - and I am !It changes your whole pc. Any help would be appreciated.I'm going to check some more stuff.
other than this mess we have, everyone have a good day.

Re: svchost.exe problems by Anonymous Ghost on October 07th, 2006 10:55:26 AM
i think whole problem can be solved by doing changes in registry or simply deleting those files in system 32 folder or its subfolders.. i am a complete novie in that but i usually gets rid of the trojans by deleting unonymous looking files in system32 folder.. there is some risks involved... but the thing worked for me actually
