There are many viruses than do this type of thing. Can you describe what other things you see wrong with your PC. Maybe too many error messages etc.

Well, I'm actually not experiencing anything else that I know of. No error messages or missing files or anything. Just that Norton or McAffee won't run. I tried to run the on-line scan, and it ould not load. Once I got to the log-in page and tried to "starts" my I.E. would go to a blank page with "Done" showing in th status line at the bottom of I.E. This happened both when I tried to register and when I tried to log in. |

This is happening to me to. Even when i try to search for Virus info on the web ANYWHERE i type in Virus help etc, it shuts IE down. *note i am refering to my mothers/brothers computer, i am currently on my OWN comptuer at a seperate loacation. Any help would be apprecaited. i worked on it forEVER today! |

There are many viruses that do this kinda thing.
If both the PCs are on same network then you can easily scan the infected computer, or else try booting the infected computer in safe mode and then run the virus scan, that should work in most cases. Tell me if it doesnt work. |

I have had the Norton 2001 for a year and had no problem with it. Yesterday, it told me to re-install it. I have done that at least 4 times and it comes up when I start my pc up and says "Unable to initialize the virus scanning engine database files". What is causing that? I have windows 95 and that is definately the right Norton. It mentions NAV Auto-Protect. Any help would be appreciated as I am getting fed up \with this problem. Thanks. |

I ran a windows update last night and then tried to run the Norton Anti Virus. A lot of errors came up each time I tried to run it. One said Nmane.exe has caused an error and will now close. There were a few more, but I don't remember right now what they said. How do you run it in safe mode to remove any viruses? |

I purchased Norton AntiVirus 2004. After installation message pops up error must close . whats up. If I can purchase the 2004 from you or whoever I would rather have it fixed online thank you |

I had the same problem. Not only would ie crash when i typed "virus" other keywords caused the same result, such as ,security,msconfig,firewall.
also if i typed in norton or mcafee (google) ie would display a list of links but if any link that contained any word that might be helpful that link would cause ie to close. msconfig, regedit,and many tools from the control panel also refused to respond. I bit the bullet and reformatted,, that sucks with a 240 gig hd!!!! |

I can not run Norton antivirus in safe mode?? When i click the icon to run all i get is a quick flicker of the hour glass then goes away..At that time perf log errors are showing up in the system log ?? |

Both Norton and MacAfee will not work on my computer. Norton installs and does a scan but will not let me update Live Update. It keeps saying I need to renew my subscritpion and I all ready have. MacAfee installs but won't let me run it. I refuse to pay for anything else from Norton when I just did and still nothing happens. It said it does not support Norton 2002 anymore so I got Norton 2005 and even that one won't work. Help! |
