computer cant boot because of a virus boot malmo the norton antivirus detects it but does not remove it also cannot be quarantined operating system is windows 2000 |

Windows 95/98:
Note for Windows 9x systems - during the boot process a Windows95 created boot disk will access the hard drive for information. Because of this an image of the virus may be in memory but not active.
To remove the virus, follow the following steps:
- If you use the McAfee emergency disk, hit F8 at the starting Windows 95 message, and select Step-by-step Configuration. Say yes to everything except processing the autoexec.bat file.
- At the a:, type
BOOTSCAN C: /BOOT /CLEAN /NOMEM
BOOTSCAN.EXE is available for download from http://vil.nai.com/vil/virus-4e.asp
Windows NT/2000:
Shut down the PC and turn the power off. Obtain or create a virus free boot disk and scan disk. After booting, at the A:\ prompt, execute the following command:
BOOTSCAN C: /boot /clean
Once the virus has been removed, remove all floppy diskettes from the computer and reboot from the hard drive.
This will also clean an NTFS Master Boot Record and allow Windows NT to successfully reboot from the hard disk drive. VirusScan for DOS will not be able to read the rest of the NTFS partition. After starting Windows, execute VirusScan or NetShield to detect and clean Windows NT file infections which may exist. |

my floppy drive has a problem when it comes to accessing a floppy disk since it was infected with wyx virus and so with my boot sector..

A pc having processor intel p-111 and via mbd, OS Win98 is infected with wyx.c virus. this virus cause widnow to shtudown before starting. displaying message "symentic antivrus found wyx.c virus in memory, pc is shuting down".
This pc is intalled on LAN. The LAN comprises of Novel4.1 Server and diskless nodes and two other windows 98 PC.
I have formatted the infected pc, no. of times and even changed mbd(regarding afraid of Cmos virus) and Harddisk. But problem again appear when i configure the pc on network.
So i came to know that the virus is in network. whether in the server(Novel4.1) or in windows98 PC(s).
Now pls tell me whether wyx.c virus may exist/effect in Novel 4.1.
And can it is able to transit from one window98 pc to another if there ip addresses are not configured.
Finally, tell me if i have changed the whole unit (HDD & MBD) then from where this virus came into being and how.Also suggest the solution to get rid of this.
Note: there is no malfucntioning appear in the Novel 4.1 server. |
