Boot sector virusConfiguration:
Hi, I know in the past there have been topics on this before, but I’m having real problems with what I believe to be a boot sector virus that may have infected my RAM as well.
I was running Windows XP Pro on my Asus P4C800-E motherboard with my four sticks of 512MB Corsair RAM and one day while browsing the internet I got a blue screen. When I restarted I received messages that my two antivirus programs, Norton and AVG, were corrupted. When I tried to run AVG, I got a blue screen and haven’t been able to get into a GUI environment since.
I had been running Norton Systemworks 2003 on my computer for about six months, but it always got hung on rasdial.dll, which I found to be remote access files. Since I had disabled remote access and nothing I did could stop this hang, I stopped using Norton Antivirus altogether and just let the system guard programs of Norton run in the background while I used AVG weekly. My BIOS had an option to protect the boot sector which was disabled by default and I had never paid attention to.
I assumed I had some kind of virus and since I always got hit with a blue screen at startup, I deleted the partition and tried to start over. I, of course, could not start over and continuously got hit with a blue screen at some point during attempted installation of Windows XP. The only OS I have been able to successfully run is DOS 6.22, but all the recommended commands I found to use, such as fdisk /mbr, msav.exe, scandisk and creating partitions in fdisk have all proved negative. Fdisk /mbr, attempting to create partitions in fdisk and installing DOS 6.22 all came with a warning saying, “Boot sector write, Virus: Yes or No.” While this may be coming from the now enabled boot sector protection from my BIOS, Fdisk /mbr and Fdisk itself have proven entirely useless so far and still come with the warnings after a number of attempts to use these utilities.
I ran F-Prot and found absolutely nothing. I was running a RAID of one 180GB and one 120GB hard drive. Both were made by Western Digital and both seem to have the same problems when I run them separately. The Western Digital Data Lifeguard disk found nothing as well as to the virus. Since my system had only DOS on it, I ran both the write zeros program from the WD disk and the Active Killdisk programs, yet I still have the same problems.
When I attempt to install Windows XP, I get a blue screen saying, “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA” at the sixth floppy. When I try to install 2000 Pro, my only other OS, it hangs early in the startup. The WD disk has began to do this as well. The reason I believe the problem extends to my RAM is because after installation of DOS 6.22 I always get a warning saying, “Error: Himem.sys has detected unreliable XMS memory at address 00105316h.” Since the HMA is not available and the XMS driver is not installed, the system can only run DOS Low. This causes SmartDrive to not be loaded as well. Thank you.

Additional Comments:
Also, in case my problems don’t get alleviated, it would really help me if I knew which parts I should I replace. Should it be solely the hard drive, motherboard or RAM, or all three?

Boot sector Virus
you should ensure that your virus scanner is able to check the boot sector. Most on the market today are able to scan the bootsector however it may need to be implemented
