Can you guide me on how can I troubleshoot skype voip.

i really need help. i connect to skype. maybe for a couple minutes. Than it just says "connecting" and skype stops working.. Also Firefox and/or Internet explorer stop working. But im still able to get on a MMORPG game so its not totally disconnecting my internet. Just skype and my web browsers. Ive tried 3.6 and down. Fire wall is not blocking it. I have Windows Vista basic. Please have any advice or anything please help me. i need skype. I'm not good with computers, really dont know thjem, but could use help, thank you.
