How to disable Windows Vista's desktop search indexing
- Press (Windows key + R) that would bring on Run prompt.
- Type in Services.msc and click OK.
- Select the service named Windows Search.
- Right click on it and select
properties. - Choose Disabled as the startup type.
- Now stop the service
just clicking the Stop button.
Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Indexing
Options.
Remove all the locations from there.
One more way is to disable indexing for a certain drive or vice-versa.
Go to My Computer, right click on the drive that you want to
enable/disable indexing on.
Uncheck the box corresponding to Index this drive for faster searching.
