Active Virus Shield

Since Active Virus Shield is no longer supported by AOL, I have tried to removed it with the INSTALL/REMOVE programs, to no avail.  However In The ALL PROGRAMS listing, Active Virus Shield has been removed. Now, when I reboot my Laptop , A V S is still running. In order to uninstall this program, first I have to stop it running. This is where I need help.  Anyone, please.

Thanks.

Re: Active Virus Shield

One possible approach will be to try installing it again and then use the uninstall procedure to uninstall the application.

Re: Active Virus Shield

Another possible approach is:

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Press OK.
  4. In the window that opens, stop all the Active Virus Shield/ AVS services. Also right click them and in the properties, disable the service.
  5. Once you have done that you can go to your Program Files folder and manually delete the folder corresponding to Active Virus Shield.
  6. Click Start > Run.
  7. Type msconfig
  8. Press OK.
  9. Now click the Startup tab. Uncheck all Active Virus Shield related entries here.
  10. Click OK.

Re: Active Virus Shield

Make sure that once you have uninstalled Active Virus Shield, that you install some Anti-Virus program, like McAfee® VirusScan Plus – Special edition from AOL.
