Active Virus Shield
Since Active Virus Shield is no longer supported by AOL, I have tried to removed it with the INSTALL/REMOVE programs, to no avail. However In The ALL PROGRAMS listing, Active Virus Shield has been removed. Now, when I reboot my Laptop , A V S is still running. In order to uninstall this program, first I have to stop it running. This is where I need help. Anyone, please.
Thanks.
One possible approach will be to try installing it again and then use the uninstall procedure to uninstall the application.
Another possible approach is:
- Click Start > Run.
- Type services.msc
- Press OK.
- In the window that opens, stop all the Active Virus Shield/ AVS services. Also right click them and in the properties, disable the service.
- Once you have done that you can go to your Program Files folder and manually delete the folder corresponding to Active Virus Shield.
- Click Start > Run.
- Type msconfig
- Press OK.
- Now click the Startup tab. Uncheck all Active Virus Shield related entries here.
- Click OK.
Make sure that once you have uninstalled Active Virus Shield, that you install some Anti-Virus program, like McAfee® VirusScan Plus – Special edition from AOL.
