Vincent Van Gogh, whose churning fields of color and contemplative self-portraits seem to surge with generosity of creative spirit, said, “I have walked this earth for 30 years and, out of gratitude, want to leave some souvenir.”
For most artists, a muse usually comes in the form of a person, place or specific experience rather than an altruistic impulse or sense of indebtedness and, indeed, by its very definition, art is often a tacit expression of the id, the ego or, in some cases, the unapologetic, over-inflated bravado of its creator.

The Subdudes are at the Paramount on Saturday with their New Orleans influenced sound. I checked out a live recording on their Web site and they do justice to their roots. This should be another example of the Paramount bringing great shows here to Rutland. Show your support and take in the show.

A new strain of the flu is heading for Vermont this year, but health officials say supplies of vaccine to deal with it are plentiful.
“The flu vaccine is in good supply and manufacturers have begun shipping to the people who purchase it,” said Sue Barry, immunization program chief at the Vermont Department of Health. “In Vermont, over 32,000 doses have been shipped so far.”
